How's weaning going for you?

My DS2 is 7mo and we're pottering along with a mix of finger foods and purees.

I'm seriously lacking inspiration though!
Would anyone appreciate a weaning recipe/tips/rant thread??

Hi I have an almost 7m old and am in the midst of weaning too.
Despite my best intentions to do mainly finger foods my ds has only this week managed to master the skill with broccoli. Melon was a disaster as he just choked on it - but he did enjoy sucking on it as he is teething.

Purée wise I am doing butternut squash, carrot and pea today. Have sweet potato and broccoli in the freezer. He enjoyed avocado and banana yesterday.

What has your ds enjoyed? Have you tried meat yet?

Oh and rant wise - am already fed up of orange mush all over the kitchen thanks to his love of flicking spoons or whatever else he gets up to!

I am being lazy and buying my purees this time - he has especially enjoyed the Ellas kitchen spag bol one. He was like a chick in a nest with his mouth wide open!

He just spent a good half an hour gnawing and sucking on two apple slices and a piece of cheese on bagel, which is the most dedication he's shown recently.

Slightly sweetened yoghurt & rice pudding hits too.

I hear you about the mess - luckily I have a dog!

I bought one of those mini processors so I tend to whizz some things up and mash others. I have those weaning pots/trays so I batch cook, blitz and freeze. He also has toast as finger foods and those little organic yogurts by Yeo.

I did BLW with DS1 and it's made no difference to how he eats now (age 4). He used to eat beautifully but now I have to sit with him and help him eat or else he just doesn't eat 😡

This time I just decided to make sure the baby had a good variety of food in its tummy and if that meant I puréed it then so be it.

Cream cheese sarnies have been a hit here,
And aldi baby rice cakes!
Also Yorkshire pudding.

Did not like the piece of fajita chicken I gave him yesterday.

We literally started yesterday. At the moment we are doing BLW but it's very early days so we'll see.

I think this is the bit of parenting I've felt most nervous about. It's just so much responsibility when I think how I need to instill healthy eating habits in him.

I think the bagel was firmer than toast which was easier for him to hold on to.

Unfortunately tea time coincided with an enormous melt down last night so I didn't get to try him in a bit if pork casserole.

He might get his first bit of pasty shortly, a Cornish right of passage!

We did BLW. DS is now 14 months and loves food SO MUCH. Dinner is absolutely his favourite part of the day. He loves feeding me food with a fork and being fed bits of what I eat, and he loves all different kinds of food. It's amazing how his appetite varies, too - some days he eats more than me, other days he practically lives on light and air.

Sleep yes I think that is more my approach too this time. As my older child had multiple allergies (so many but half at least outgrown now!) we are under a dietitian and been told to give each new food separately so have to make sure it has been eaten a bit.

My ds loved the tender stem broccoli as finger food so ordered asparagus for online shop tomorrow to try. Also just made a chicken and apple type stew for trying meat for the first time tomorrow.

Q great picture - my ds did that with baby rice and the box got thrown away!

Thursday a dog would be great right now!!
