Milk before or after solids?

Hi, my LO is 7.5 months and I've been weaning her for 2 months.

I usually try give her her meals about an hour after her milk feed (bf) so that's she's not too full, but she never eats very much and I presume it's because she's not that hungry. The problem is if I leave it any longer she then needs a nap and by the time she wakes up she's usually due another milk feed.

Should I offer her solids first and then give her a milk feed? Or at this stage should milk still come first?

Thanks.

I started by offering food when DS was approaching hunger, but not hungry. I had milk ready to go for when he decided he was hungry (this is before he was eating any real amounts).

It was then an easy transition to more food, less milk, and he has "tea" followed by water as a whole feed (replacing the 4.30pm bottle).

The NCT advice is to do exactly what you are doing and don't worry that baby doesn't eat much- food is fun until they're one!

Fwiw my 91st centile 9MO is the same- still eating very very small amounts now. But doesn't seem to be harming him either..

I never bothered with timing when weaning both DDs. For example I was doing dinner tonight and DD2 got grumpy. I bf her once the food was on the stove. Then dinner was about 20min later. Both mine coped fine with bf on demand with 3 meals at set time with us. I think all that timing of feeds one hour before food just causes stress. Have you seen an older child that prefers breasts over food?

I was just going to post similar with my 8 month. A gp I spoke to said it's fine if they eat little, but if worried offer high protein/calorie nibbles as well as formal meals eg a bite of mild cheese here, a slice of banana there. She kind of said it was more to assuage mum worries than any need, and they "take what they want" if healthy.
I feed mid way between milk feeds eg bf 7am, weetabix 8.30am with milk on, sleep, bf 10am etc.

Thanks, that's pretty much shah we do at the moment too.

Today I have solids before her lunch and dinner, she took a bit more of
Both than normal. I then offered her a bf but she refused both times which meant she ended up going 5 hours between feeds rather than her usual 3/4.

I would be happy enough with that if it weren't for the fact she gets up for a feed every 2/3 hours during the night, so wondering if she actually gets enough during the day.
