We have been advised to wean early due to reflux

Can anyone suggest what to try? Is it 1 new food a week?

Is it just baby rice mixed with her neocate formula or should I try purée fruit And veg? What about meat and fish?

Before 6 months only baby rice and fruit and veg. I would ask the HCP (GP/HV/Paed?) who advised the early weaning for more specific advice though.

We weaned at 17 weeks due to silent reflux. My ds was like a different baby almost immediately and actually started to be happy and sleep! We started slowly with baby rice at teatime for a week then swapped to vegetable or fruit purée at teatime. By around 20 weeks we introduced breakfast, tended to be baby porridge with purée apple or banana. Then at 22 weeks lunch as well- just veg and fruit purée with baby rice. He took really well to it. By 6 months I then introduced yoghurt, cheese, meat etc.
Good luck with it!

Ps we used the Annabel Karmel weaning planner. I didn't offer water just stuck with the normal number of breastfeeds/bottlesnand always did milk first then food.

i weaned my little boy at 17 weeks on advise from dietician due to reflux and other health problems, he didn't like baby rice so we started him on fruits like apple, pear, banana, and stone fruits along with vegetables like carrot, sweet potato, tried peas, and root vegetables.. this is what the dietician advised us, she also advised us to try one new food every 3 days as if he was to have a reaction this will be enough time to see it. hope this helps and hope your little ones enjoys there food xx we started with just breakfast as then you have the whole waking day to see for any reactions to new foods then worked our way up to 3 meals now at 30 weeks his having 4 meals a day lol

Hope it's going well fraggle!

We're about to begin doing the same, for the same reasons, but I'm so confused about when in the day to try it.

My instinct says begin with some rice at the 4/5pm food, allow baby to have as much of this as he feels like having, then offer slightly reduced milk feed to wash it down/full him up?

FTM here and excited but baffled.

4/5pm feed, not food,

I would do lunchtime, after a milk feed (about an hour) so that they're not starving but not too full. Lunchtime gives them a chance to process the solids before bedtime and also gives you a chance to observe in case of an allergy/reaction.

The last thing you want to do at such a young age is cut down on any milk.

yeah best to give at lunch incase of reactions and if it helps dietician told me to keep his milk as usual and he will let me know if he wants less, my little one is 7 months now and is on 4 meals a day but still takes around 20-25oz which is usual for him as his soo small

Thanks Lixie.

Going to give it a try in the middle of the day as advised.

I'm just confused about what this might mean for milk - surely he won't be as hungry and won't take as much? I'll keep offering bottles at the same times etc...

hi jessl89
i felt the same, was so confused about his botlles and making sure his drinking enough, was really quite anxious about it, but both dieticitian and halth visitor just said to keep giving him his bottles as normal and he will either drink less or refuse it if he dont, now adams 30 weeks he has 3-4 meals a day and instead of having 6-8 bottes a day he has 4-6 bottles a day having the same amount in each bottle as before

good luck xx and dont worry, keep going he/she will let you know if they want more/less xx

Well, this morning at about 11 we had a first taste and a first go with a spoon of a Hipp banana and baby rice sachet - he was a bit weirded out by it.

I've just now tried some more and he went mad for it! Was very excited, got the hang of what the spoon was, started opening his mouth for it and munching the purée off the end. He was really pleased with himself afterwards!

I think he might be ready!

lol bless him, sounds great :) wont be long before his eating 3 meals a day with that attitude :) glad it went well :) dunno if you were planning to make your own at all but in case ... i make my own purées and put them in silicon ice cube trays, you can freeze them then and just take out a few cubes of what you want and mix and match as you go, found this good and a more cost effective way of making baby food and its easy to get meals quick for them! again glad it went well, oh and aim to introduce one new food every 3 days, this way its easier to tell for any reactions when weaning xx
