I'm a bit unsure on the concept. Probably a stupid question but how do I know when my dd's ready to stop feeding from me? She's nearly 9mo and is obviously on three solid meals a day. She feeds from me twice during the day and twice at night but lately she's been hardly interested during the day and every now and then she's been just sleeping through the night. Is it time to stop feeding her? Is she too young to be off milk?

Yes she's too young. Babies need breastmilk or formula until they're one year old. Solids should be in addition to this rather than their main source of nutrition at this age.

I think it's normal for babies to go through a stage of not being so bothered with milk when they get the hang of solids, but you still need to encourage bf. It can also be a struggle to get them to stay still long enough to bf at this age because they are so into everything they want to be off exploring all the time!

Thank you for responding. I don't think I'm ready for her to stop anyway. I'll just continue offering her milk.

At 13 months DD is still having milk in the morning, at bedtime and occasionally in the night. Until a year old breast milk/formula should still constitute a large part of a baby's diet. It's normal for them to have 'off' periods but definitely keep offering milk.

Perhaps it's just because of teething. She isn't really showing any other symptoms but she is cutting two teeth.

I do agree to keep offering milk but if she really won't take it, do make sure she has plenty of other dairy in her diet, milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. a nutritionist told me that it doesn't matter where babies get calcium from as long as they get it from somewhere.

It's fine for her not To have any at night by this stage, so it could be she's less bothered by milk during the day because she's getting it at night
