Homemade food, freeing, heating etc confused

My baby is almost 6 months now so Ive been looking into home made baby food ideas.
I think I get the following but not sure if its right and just need some clarification, as it all seems a bit confusing.

  1. you can freeze homemade baby food, but it has to cool down first, ( cool it down quickly but how? in some cold water?
  2. You cant let baby foot sit on the counter. after 2 hours discard

3, It can be put in fridge for 24 hours
  1. when taking baby food out the freezer, you can microwave from frozen? use warm water to defrost or allow to defrost in fridge

  1. but once its defrosted you need to reheat to piping hot as well?

  1. then allow to cool down for serving, but where? if left to cool down on counter isn't what they say not to do? or maybe you don't let it cool down too much?.

How else can it cool for baby to eat,

  1. also what about foods you want to freeze but then serve cold, do you have to still reheat them? Confused

I used to heat up all prepared food and then cool it down by putting it on an ice-pack. I prepared all my dd's food from scratch and it's easy to do.

I just prepared, cooked and stored it the same as our food. Both dc were BLW which makes everything a lot simlpler.

What about just making family meals, shepherds pie, jacket potatoes, Spaghetti bolognase and then giving baby some? Once six months they can have everything bar honey, watch out for choking so avoid whole nuts, grapes, cherry tomatoes and limit salt and that is pretty much it.

The Sainbury's "Little Ones" cool book has meal recipes for families, with instructions on how to adapt them for weaning and toddlers.

Yes, just treat it like you would your own home made freezer shepherds pies etc.
So, freeze after it's cooled down a bit (although I don't bother). When you're ready to feed baby, remove desired quantity from freezer (easy if you've used big ice cube trays and decanted into freezer bags once frozen).
Place in microwave bowl and 'defrost' in microwave for about 60 seconds.
Cool down and serve! Taste it yourself to make sure not too hot.
Remember, you're not thinking 'sterile' anymore because baby is over 6 months. (Yes, that's right, you can stop sterilising bottles now!). Just normal food prep common sense. Enjoy!
