Hi
I'm weaning my 6m did she has no teeth as yet but is loving finger foods but I'm not sure what I chan give her other than toast or sticks of soft foot and veg. When will I be able to give her meat. I've asked the health visitors but they keep talking about mush and other mums seam to have done spoon feeding, anyone got any advice.

Dd had no teeth til 13m but she managed normal food no problem tbh. Their gums are very tough. She just had much if what we ate tbh but in smaller handheld sizes.

Yup no teeth till 13 months for dd. She ate what we ate from six months. No teeth required. They have hard gums.

My 7mo has no teeth and so far most things are on the menu. I posted on another thread some of the things she has eaten so far.

I think most 6mo don't have teeth yet, that's fine for BLW.

If you aren't vegetarian then it's good to start them on meat at 6m as it has valuable nutrients. You could try giving her pieces of stew to suck, or perhaps a soft roast. Or sausage as it's soft, but not too much as it's salty. Or mince (OK that's sort of puree, but it's family food), although a spoon does help with that which isn't hard core BLW.

You could try the BLW Cookbook for more ideas.

I gave mine a bit of almost anything we were eating even if she couldn't chew it, as I reckoned it was good practice for her to play with it. That was actually safer before she got teeth as she couldn't bite little chunks off.

Our DS loved to chew on red meat well before he got teeth (at 9 months!), he also loved flaky steamed fish, soft cooked dishes like oat pancakes or chickpea fritters, steamed veg - you can try lots of things! We got lots of fritter and soft food ideas at [mylittlelunchbox.com]

My son doesn't have teeth yet either and loves to suck/gum strips of steak, he doesn't do too well with chicken though. He also devours home made yorkshires and roasties.
