My DD eats sooo much - normal?!

My DD is just about to turn 1 and is extremely enthusiastic about her food. She hardly ever seems to be full, and just eats and eats. Apart from her cereal she feeds herself, so I know that she's only taking what she wants, but still I am a bit worried as she seems to be pretty big. She certainly isn't fat, but is a very tall girl (98th centile) - I'm not sure how much she weighs as I haven't had time to go since I've been back to work. She used to follow a line between 75th-91st but /I think she's probably above that now - she feels heavy.

A typical day is like this:

Wake - c. 5oz cows milk in a cup

Breakfast - 1 weetabix and half a piece of bread and butter

snack - raisins & 1 or 2 ricecakes

lunch - cheese & tomato sandwich made with one piece of bread & 1 fromage frais.

snack after nap - whole banana

tea - e.g. a handful of pasta twirls, a fair amount of chicken, a large tree of broccoli or two slices of courgette. If she's still hungry she will have fruit after; a handful of grapes or a cut up satsuma.
before bed - 5oz milk in a cup

She rarely leaves any of this, but I take it away as soon as she starts messing around with it.

Is this too much? I'm really worried she is having too much to eat and I am unwittingly letting her get too big. She is not walking yet, but is very close.

It doesn't sound that much to me? I wouldn't worry about it :-)

IME they ease off around 1 so give it a couple if months & I bet you'll be posting to ask why your DD isn't eating well.

Now I've written it down it doesn't seem that much! Just her portions seem pretty big, especially at dinner and she rarely stops! I am glad she's a good eater, and I certainly don't want her to become fussy so I let her eat. Lol thanks Tigress I expect you are right!

Doesn't sound too much my 17mo DS can wolf down 2 weetabix with fruit at breakfast (has done since 12mo), bowl of soup or 1.5 slices bread with cold meat or peanut butter then custard with fruit then dinner which could be mince and potatoes (full bowl) or 2 fish fingers and 5 potato shapes or large handful of pesto pasta with chicken and corn or 1 large tortilla wrap with 6 small sausages and peas..... then has 5oz milk at bedtime.

Dd was like this, Im pretty sure her legs were hollow! She would eat and eat. She's very tall for her age and just turned 5 and her appetite has taken a bit of a nosedive in the last year.

My 1yo eats about that, he was 0.4th till 6 months then weaned and is now 50th! They slow up and get fussy as they get older and want to exert some control so I'm trying to just enjoy my little weed Wink

My dd used to eat 4 weetabix for breakfast, she has calmed down a bit now.

Those nappies weren't fun!

Don't worry, I think she sounds fine
