Yoghurt

Can anyone help please on which yoghurts are suitable for my 7 month old. I know the advice is full fat, preferably plain, and i wanted to give this either on its own or with some pureed fruit. In the supermarket i couldn't find 'full fat plain' yoghurt, the closest i could find is 'natural' yoghurt. So i gave him some today but then noticed it is live. Wanting to check whether this is ok, i asked at my local baby clinic and they said it 'wasn't recommended' but didnt tell me why, or where i can find full fat plain yoghurt. They recommended petit filous but i have heard they are full of sugar, so wouldn't want to use them regularly.

They recommended petit filous?! Hmm....

I give my ds Yeo Valley Yoghurt - I just buy a big tub of either the Natural, Mild & Creamy or the Greek Style. Rachel's Organic do similar. Sainsburys do an own brand full fat Greek style too, so I imagine other supermarkets do similar.

Live yoghurt is no problem - no idea why your HV said otherwise.

I mix in homemade fruit/fruit purée if I want to add flavour to it, or just mush a banana and mix it in.

Plum baby fromage frais are the only ones without any added sugar of any sort. I think they are the best for weaning.

Otherwise I give Greek full fat yoghurt (tesco or sainsburys own brand) with some fruit mashed in (banana or berries works well)

Definitely not petit filous

Yeo Valley do baby yoghurts called "First Yeos" they are sugar free. But they also do larger toddler yoghurts which have added sugar so make sure you get the right ones. Baffles me why they put sugar in the toddler ones, I wrote to them to ask once and they didn't seem to know either...!

Plum baby do what others do which is to add concentrated fruit juice instead of sugar, so swapping refined sugar for fructose. Rachel's organic taste explorers have similar ingredients to the plum baby fromage frais, as do Ella's kitchen yoghurts.

Just Greek yogurt will be fine

Total full fat Greek yogurt - don't waste money on baby yogurts until they are old enough to enjoy digging their spoon into little pot.

I give my nearly 7 month old the baby ones and she eats most of it and loves it. She is BLWed and has got a lot better feeding herself from a loaded spoon. A bit left on her face and hands other then that devoured. She grabs the spoon off me
