After the advise of the hv and paediatrician I started weaning dd. all was going well with baby rice and we took it slowly. I then introduced purées. She is now straining her little heart out when she poos. I gave her water with a squeeze of orange juice, pureed prunes, every trick in the book. She has been breastfeeding a lot so she can't b dehydrated. She has a massive appetite too and doesn't seem satisfied until she's had her meals so she is on three meals a day. I feel so bad for her. I'm literally up at a ridiculous hour thinking about it not being able to sleep :( my dd1 suffered with constipation and we had a long battle with that. Any suggestions, advise would be so appreciated. Thank you.

Even though she's breastfeeding a lot, I would offer water (in a free flow sippy cup) with meals. I found my ds had some constipation until he started drinking a bit of water with food.

Also, avoid bananas and sweet potato as they can be binding.

It may also be worth trying to just do 2 meals a day until the constipation is sorted out.

Agree with ex. Your milk will be enough to satisfy her so don't worry about reducing her solids to twice a day. Also, are you bfing roughly an hour before solids?

My baby was also constipated at first. I'd cut down the baby rice completely for a few days and replace with fruit. I found Ella's pouches of pears pears pears and things containing prunes worked well. I only give baby rice every two or three days now and no more problems.
