Breakfast ideas for 7m old

NotSoNervous · 07/06/2013 20:15

Hi I'm looking for some ideas to give my 7m old DD for breakfast. She has things like baby cereal, weetabix, jam on toast and I did try scrambled egg a few times but she wasn't impressed. Any ideas would be great

Yoghurt goes down best here so I just get plain live stuff and then serve with different fruit.

However I tend to think that 7 months is a reasonable age to serve anything so I've given dd leftover curry for breakfast before.

I tend to give DS different cereals e.g. Weetabix, Ready Brek, Cheerios, Rice Crispies, Cornflakes etc. sometimes I will give him yoghurt and fruit, but I tend to give him yoghurt and fruit as snacks .

Ready brek with chopped banana or raisins, eggy bread with berries, blueberry pancakes, sausage and beans, MN has some good breakfast recipes and there are some others here Smile

Mine likes crumpets, pancakes, shreddies with fruit puree, bits of banana, peanut butter on toast.

Eggy bread with cinnamon? Mines into weetabix with fruit purée at the moment.

I saw a recipe on here for banana pancakes. Simply mash a banana and then beat in an egg. Cook like you would a normal pancake - Delicious my DD loved them.

I haven't tried eggy bread but will give that a go too.

Is it okay for babies to have adult porridge and that? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

Yes it's fine for them to have porridge and its much cheaper than special baby cereals. Hope you all enjoy the blueberry pancakes Smile

Never had enough to freeze, the recipe I use gives about 8 pancakes, so that's enough for me and the DC. If DH is home I end up making extra.

I didn't like ds having too much wheat at that age so gave him Oatibix which he loved - he always had that and a banana.

I just got regular porridge oats, mixed with milk (more than I would use for myself though) and then put some steamed apple and cinnamon in. He loved it. Went down a storm.

Tried freezing it - didn't like it. So now I freeze the apple and cinnamon, and then just add to the porridge after it is made.

I also have to blend it, as he won't take it lumpy yet.

Ready break is great as quicker to make than porridge on hurried days. Milk warmed in microwave, add to ready break and stir

Regular porridge great as can all eat together.

Mine liked ready brek at that age and still do now some days Smile

They like mixing it with whatever fruit we've got in.

Thank you for the ideas keep them coming Grin

The blueberry pancakes she had a bit of a go on but she doesn't always eat much of finger foods but I still like to give her the option. I'm going to give her ready brek and banana this morning

DS2 is currently a fan of toasted bagel dipped in yoghurt. Must try the blueberry pancakes...

Dd likes those cinnamon and raisin bagels toasted and buttered. She's never tried dipping them in yogurt but probably only because she is such a fan of butter Smile

I think the bagels might be a bit tough for her yet but an idea for the future

She loved the porridge jilted I couldn't believe how much she ate! It was half a tommee tippee bowl full with a whole banana and she scoffed it! Grin

I give Ds toast with soft cheese on most days. Sometimes he has boiled egg with soldiers. I gave up with banana cos it stains everything! I gave him some curry last week that he got everywhere and that didn't stain but banana stains will NOT come out!

We do baby-led, so tend to make porridge with a 1:1 ratio oats and whole milk, stir until thick (doesn't take long), mould into balls and put on tray when cool. That, a kiwi fruit cut into four wedges, half a banana and some yoghurt is what DS gets for breakfast most days!
