Too early or too late in the day?

My DD2 is 22 weeks and 3 days old today, (5 months 1 week) and is exclusively beast fed (3 hourly day and night).

Ive had diarrhoea all day today (sorry for TMI) and haven't been able to eat anything or drink as much as I should.

This afternoon she's been really unsettled when feeding, pulling on and off (more than usual!) and whinging quite a bit, which isn't like her at all. Not sure if it's because the taste is strange today or if the quality is rubbish due to my low intake.

She's been riveted watching us eat for ages, but as she usually settles well I hadn't planned to introduce solids till 6 months.

My question - would it be the end of the world if I tried her with a little baby rice now, to help her settle (she does seem really hungry) or would I be better hanging on to try in the morning?

Thanks...

I'd written a longish reply but mumsnet keeps going offline...

I think five months is a typical age to get fussy, ds is exactly the same. I wouldn't wean after one day of fussiness and one day of upset tummy shouldn't effect your milk at all...

I'm weaning ds now (26 weeks monday) and he's still fussy when feeding.

I had written more but want to post this before it goes offline again!

If you have a bug she's likely to come down with it too. That's the most likely reason she's off her milk. Don't make it worse with new foods.

Hope you feel better soon as well. flowers

Hi Spotty (I remember you from the 'due in December' threads, although I mostly lurked!) I lost my op twice as well!

She hasn't actually been unsettled until today, which is why I wondered about the milk quality. I know when she was unsettled at a few weeks old, I was advised to have more protein with each meal to enrich it, so that's what made me wonder...maybe I'll hope she'll settle later and think again tomorrow.

Thanks MrsHoarder-me too grin

DS came in November in the end! He is really fussy at the moment though in the day and before bed, he does feed nicely through the night though which makes me think he's just distracted.

DD is just the same-life is far more interesting than keeping a good latch grin

Fingers crossed tomorrow is more settled for both of us wink

Thanks for the replies.
