Water everywhere,

I've been trying to get my almost 6 month old (6 months next week), to drink water.
The water has been everywhere, but his mouth. He seems very interested in my tea I've tried baby juice, and I still get the 'really mum? You want me to drink this?' Face.

Just to be clear, the water is a addition to his FF.

Any advice? Any tips to get him into drinking water?

Just keep trying! He will get it in the end. Have you got a non-spill cup that he needs to suck the water from rather than a free flow one?

I tried using his small bottle, to stop him getting water everywhere. He was not impressed.

DS is 11mo, even now his favourite thing to do with his water is to have a shower but he will also drink from it. DD was the same and I am glad to report she doesn't treat us all to a free wash with every drink

Mine did this - liked waving it around but not drinking; or he'd take a sip and let it dribble out of his mouth

He got it in the end (took a few weeks). I'd suggest getting one of those free-flow tommy tippee ones and ignoring him

I'd avoid juice - he'll just get a taste for it and then he'll DEFINITELY not want boring old water!

Have you tried with an open cup?

Just give it time. It took DS about 4 months to drink water from his cup rather than spit it out like a fountain. Once he got the hang of it, there was no stopping him.

Also, at this age, most of their fluid requirements are still coming from their milk so he also probably isn't that thirsty. As long as he's producing wet nappies, he's getting enough fluid. He'll drink more water as his milk intake falls in due course.

I'd try it from a lidded free flow cup rather than a bottle. It took ages for mine to take more than a few sips from it but I persevered and they got the hang of it eventually.
