How to make mealtimes enjoyable

Hi all.

I started weaning DD at 4 months on advice of HV as she's always been a really hungry baby (guzzling 10oz bottles at 10 weeks old) and now she is 6 months old and is on 3 meals a day.

She really enjoys her food and I'm sure she would eat all day if I let her but the problem is she just hates being in her high chair. She's happy as larry until I put her down in her chair then it's just constant winging and crying all the way through her meal. I think she'd rather eat whilst sitting on my lap to be honest! She always eats her food and can't wait for the next mouthful but it's a shame it's always so rushed.

I bought some high chair toys, has anyone else got any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Does her highchair have a tray? If so could you get a chair that sits her at the table so she feels more included? My DD also hated her highchair and used it very little. I ate one handed for a long, long time Smile.

Why don't you let her sit on your lap? My dd is like this when hungry so I sit her on my lap, give her some food then once she's had a bit she's happy to go into the high chair.

Thank you for the replies. The high chair we have is one that straps to a normal chair which means she does sit right at the table with us.

I gave her her tea half an hour earlier than usual today and she was so much better so I'm thinking maybe the time wasn't good for her? I always gave it to her at at 5pm as still has 3pm feed and then bedtime at 7pm so it fitted in quite nicely. But after moving it to 4:30pm today it made a big difference. We'll see if it continues to work well......Grin
