Solids disrupting sleep

i started solids (sweet potato) with DD2 (6m) a couple of days ago & she's been waking up early from naps & during the night (I've been up with her since 1am, she finally settled at 440 ) - any idea if it's likely to be the food, or is it just coincidence?

I'm only giving her a few spoonfuls & most of that's getting smeared on face/chair/table (she's enjoying it!), but I'm wondering if i should either give her something else (pear was next on the list) or if i should just stop for a couple of days?

No ideas, sorry but will be watching with interest as we're starting solids next week (ds will be 24 weeks). He normally sleeps really well til 6ish but has got earlier and earlier at waking. This morning was 4.23! Yawn yawn Grin x

Urgh, 423 is too early to be woken, I did at least get back into my bed at 5am!

I don't think I've read anything about it disrupting sleep, but I do remember DD1 waking every 3hrs the day I gave her baby rice (a HUGE shock as she had been a 7-7 sleeper for a cou

No idea either. But my DD has gone from great sleeper to horror after weaning at 6m. Last night it was 2am and 430am. I haven't done a 2am feed since before 3m! I'm blaming the solids. Or teething. Grin I'm soldiering on with the mumsnet motto this too shall pass.

I've just come on to ask the same thing! Ds is 5 mo and after noticing all the cues we've started BLW, but since then he's been up a lot doing the night, and seems generally unsettled, I wondered if it's tummy ache?

Haha, I was thinking just the same last night!

I can kinda understand their little tummies being confused by having something other than milk to deal with, but ugh... I gave her calpol & teething gel just incase it was teeth, but it didn't seem to help

Ah, ok. I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one suffering! (I shall think of you all in the early hours!)

So all this "solids will make her sleep better" really is a load of bollocks then?

Are you all soldiering on with solids? After the baby rice incident with DD1 I waited a while before trying again & it was fine....

Complete bollocks! We had a break a few days ago, as we were all suffering with colds, and his sleep did improve... May be coincidence though?

right... in the name of research, I won't give her any solids today and see what happens tonight

I just googled (dunno why I didn't think of doing that at 4:50 this morning?) & found several threads like this one on various sites, so it's not just us!

Yep - my DD's sleep has gone to pot since we started weaning. BUT it is improving, she is now just over 7 mo so hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel

I'm sorry you are all suffering but really glad to gave found this thread as my DS has gone grins 7-6 sleeper to a random waker and sometime screamer in the last few nights Sad
He's 28 weeks and getting roughly 26-30oz milk a day plus 3 small meals which he really seems to enjoy- tummy ache was my guess too. I'm sooooooo tired

My cunning plan has failed, she was up at 10ish & again at 230ish. I'm not sure if that means it's just coincidence or if there's still sime sweet potato working it's way through her system, but iI guess I'll continue with the solids again tomorrow anyway

Do you give them anything to help them settle? (calpol etc)

DD was great until this week (she was weaned at 17 weeks with fruit and veg as is the norm over here) and is now 7 months. It's the first time she has woken during the night since she was 12 weeks old. She settles immediately after a feed. I'm putting it down to extra hunger due to growth spurt / using up extra calories as she's starting to be a little more active.

Remember also that they still get most of their calories from milk - there aren't much in pureed veg but they might not want as much milk as they feel a little hungry.

It's definitely affecting how much milk she's taking, she's bf & my boobs are very uncomfortable! Perhaps part of the waking in the night is hunger? I did let her have 5mins at 3am (she hasn't had a night feed for over 2 weeks) & it she was straight back to sleep!

I would probably hold off on the solids for a couple more weeks - it won't harm her to just be on milk. Or maybe try a BLW approach? She might take in a smaller amount then which might be gentler on her.

Bertie I did wonder about stopping & trying again in a week or two, but thought as the others are experiencing crappy sleep at 7m+ I thought I may as well continue - although with smaller amounts.

Today I reckon I gave her at most 4 tsp of pear, and not all of that stayed in her mouth. Do you think that's ok? I keep reminding myself that she's just tasting food atm, but it's difficult when she's grinning at the spoon & opening her mouth so I can put it in! Luckily her big sister is helping by wanting to eat the purée too!

I was planning to go a bit more BLW in a few weeks, but perhaps I need to read up in it again sooner...

She's been very snotty this evening & I've got a sore throat, so perhaps it is just coincidence & it's a cold making her wake? My boobs feel ok today, so I'm hoping that yesterday's reduced feed was just a one-off. She has milk around 11, solids around 12 & more milk around 3pm. I thought I'd stick with that one "meal" for another week before adding breakfast
