Which fish for a BLW 6mo?

I'm thinking of cooking some fish next week for us and my 6mo DD. I'd like to do white fish, but all the ones I can think of flake easily. (For example, cod). This means they'll break down before DD has a chance to put into her mouth. How do you give fish to a baby who can only open and close her palm? Don't tell me fish fingers!

I gave my 6mo a chunk of hot smoked salmon today (his first fish Smile) and it did go into flakes in his hand but he just kind of smooshed it into his mouth! Would you be ok with that?

My DD had cod fish cakes yesterday. She loved it! and so did my cat who sat patiently eating everything that she threw on the floor. Yes it flaked and squished (the mash potatoes in the cakes) but she really enjoyed it.

The best fish to give her is whatever you usually eat, whether its Arnold Bennett Omelette, plain white fish with Mash and peas, fish & chips, fish pie or salmon stir fry. Just cook it up, stick it on her tray and watch her explore and enjoy Smile

Agree with the others - just try your 6mo with flakes of fish. You'll be surprised how they can manage it. My DD loves fish and was eating white fish, salmon, tuna (especially tuna mayo in a sandwich0, fish cakes (and yes, even fish fingers) by 6-7 months.

Thanks, I think I'll just stick a piece of grilled cod down and see how she'll handle it. It's surprising what she can't handle. For example, I thought cheddar would be easy, but a stick splits into cubes when she put it into her mouth. And she can't pick the cubes up. Poor thing!

You know how it goes lilham if she can pick it up she can eat it. If she can't pick it up its probably best she doesn't try the eating it bit Smile.

Try grating cheddar instead. Easier to pick up a handful

After having cod fish cakes on Friday, today my DD tried some of my DP grilled tuna steak which he ordered when we went out for lunch. She also loved my chicken but I think the tuna more so. I did prepare her own food when we got home as she was just exploring sharing ours.
