BLW early days

Hi all. I know the answer to this - it just takes time, letting the LOs find their own pace etc - but I need some reassurance...

We started BLW with our DD as she turned 6 months, last weekend. The first few days went really well, she chewed and sucked on carrots, cucumber, apple, broccoli, carrot puffs, rice cakes, and fed herself fromage frais with a spoon. Of course she didn't actually consume much but she really did some good exploring. And there was some evidence of actual consumption in her nappies!!

However in the last few days she's barely shown an interest at all, hardly even put anything in her mouth, just fiddled a little bit with some food.

I've been trying to give her various things about an hour after BF, a good hour or so before her naptime, and have been offering her a variety of things, with 2 or 3 pieces of food at a time.

This is normal, isn't it? There will be days she's interested and days less so, right?

I guess I'm just suffering a bit of a crisis of confidence as her amazing achievements of the first few seem to have fallen off, and as I watch friends spoon loads of purees into their LOs mouths...

It took ages for DS to "get" it, and although he was reasonably enthusiastic he really didn't eat much until he was about 9 or 10 months, and I gather from anecdotal evidence on here that's by no means unusual. He's making up for it now at 16 months, I'm glad to say! I really wouldn't worry, just bear with it.

Please don't be envious of friends, you are doing everything right and her main source of nutrition should be from you.

She will probably just take a little more time. Try to give her food at the same time you eat, that way you can eat your own food and she can either play or eat, whichever she fancies and see that its just part of normal life.

Perhaps you could try her with something different like strips of roast chicken or omelette, she will get it though, don't worry.

Keep it up it's def the best way to wean. My dd2 is nearly 7 months & I started her at 6 months. Some days she hardly eats anything & other times eats lots. You have to trust they will eat when hungry & gets goodness from ur milk. My ds1 is 2.9 & I did blw with him & he's a great little eater. Every1 comments how well he eats & will try almost anything. Keep up good work

Thanks, all. She's already had a good go at some food today, including omelette, which she wasn't sure about but had a bit of a suck on. Will pick up some different things later and otherwise just be patient Smile
