Weaning

a question about poo and 8mo babies

When I first started weaning DS at 5/6mos, his poos started to get more solid, like proper human poo.

Now, at 8mo, he hasn't had a solid poo like that for probably about a month. They're always runny, and bitty with food. Much more like new baby poo (with bits in).

He's doing BLW and eating three meals a day, and taking 3 7oz bottles of milk. There's nothing particularly strange in his diet - he'll have porridge/cereal for breakfast, yesterday's leftovers for lunch (spaghetti bolognese, pasta and sauce, spanish omlettte, lasagne, meat and rice, whatever veg), and then something on toast (egg, avocado, banana) in the evening.

Just wondered if at 8mo, those more proper poos that he was having for a short while should still be coming, or if those were just a freaky constipated period and this runny shit is ok?

C'mon. Tell me what you 8mo baby poo is like...

Possibly toddler diarrhea?

Hate to break it to you, but my DS is almost 2 and still does runny poos, they are rarely formed or solid enough to 'roll off' the nappy. He poos 3 or 4 times a day too Hmm. It can be controlled using diet - more fat, less citrus, fruit or dried fruit etc. though we never seem to have learnt the trick. Just waiting for him to grow out of it (and potty train!)

ah ok, thanks. I think that because they went hard for a short while, that's what I began to expect from a baby eating solids now. Even as a toddler though... wonderful.

try giving cheese based meals - any veggies in a cheese sauce will work

Have been wondering the same about my 7 month old. When her poos were solid there were hardly any bits of food in them, now they're runny their full of pieces of food. Makes me wonder if she is digesting her food properly?

We've had the same here. Although DS has just had a tummy bug for 10 days and is now on antibiotics for something else so that hasn't helped the cause. Not seen a proper poo for about a month and he is 8mo this week.

My 8 month old is having very runny nappies on and off, I actually posted about it in children's health here and was advised it might be down to teething, could that be the case with your DS?

Oh yeah, I forgot about teething poos. I think that must be it for my DD as she seems in excellent health.
