Dropping Milk feeds at nearly 7 months.

Hi ladies

I really really need some advice. I have been struggling to feed my daughter her normal 4 milk feeds (7am, 11am, 3pm & 7pm) and also providing her with solids. I started by doing the above with the milk feeds and then offering her a little food (half a jar) and sometimes a Yogurt. She seemed to be too full up, and so I told a friend who said to drop the 11am milk feed and give her breakfast instead and to also drop the 3pm feed and feed her solids at 1:30pm & 5pm. My schedule now looks like this;

7am - Aptimil Milk Feed
11am - Breakfast (Full Fat Milk & Wheatabix)
1:30pm - Jar & Yogurt.
5pm - Jar & Yogurt.
7pm - 7 or 8oz of Aptimil Milk.

Do you think the above is okay? I was told because I give her full fat milk in her 11am Breakfast that she is getting enough nutrients. Do you think its okay to give a near 7 month old only 2 milk feeds a day? My daughter seems happy enough but we are only on day two. Its a lot easier on me of course, but its not about me. I was really struggling though, and getting upset (hence why my friend said to force drop feeds)

The other reason I ask is because on the side of the Aptimil Follow On Milk (Stage 3) it says baby needs between 500ml - 600ml of Milk a day. I told my friend this and she said that it doesnt matter cos I am giving her Full Fat Milk (with her Breakfast, 11am feed) and she is getting enough solids. My friend has a year old who is happy and healthy so I am trusting her right now.

Please dont think bad of me, I am just trying to do the right thing.. whatever that may be.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya, they need 500ish mils of FORMULA milk up until 12 months. It does need to be formula because of the added nutrients that aren't in cows milk.

Could you use formula on her breakfast rather than cows milk? How big is her morning milk feed? If you can get 250 mils down her at each of the two feeds (or split it 210/280 you should be fine).

Sorry for formula in caps there, wasn't meaning to be patronising, just tryinmg not to confuse myself!

Hiya.

Thank you very much for your reply. You didn't sound patronising, I didn't notice actually, ha!

What you said makes more sense to me, I think trying that might be a good option or maybe doing what you said with the brekki (I was never sure about the Full Fat Milk anyway!)

Its so confusing :/

All her feeds (apart from the 7pm one) are 7oz - her 7pm feed is 8oz (bit more to sleep on)

I have to say 2 out of my 4 dc did drop their milk feeds very very quickly once we weaned!

Def use formula instead of cows milk on cereal etc in the meantime. try not to worry some babies just end up being slim but if you have concerns speak to your HV or GP.

Thank you :)

I am going to try the Milk on the brekki and see how we go - it just doesn't feel right only giving her two bottles (must be that mother's instinct)

It may be a temporary things too, babies usually have the ability to self regulate, next growth spurt she may try and eat you out of house and home!

haha really? Oh I shall bare that in mind. She hasn't had any noticeable growth spurts yet, she has always been quite fussy eater (great sleeper though!)
