For the last 4 days he's not eaten breakfest, woken up screaming 2-3 times a night and not shutting up until toys are put in his cot, refusing to eat anything when in his high chair, only eating about 4-5 spoons of anything offered to him but will eat sandwiches and biscuits no problem,he is hardly eating but he has gone hyper, he runs around screaming like a chicken with his head cut off, chucking stuff around and trying to squeeze behind things etc.

He is my first child so, is this normal? and if so what can be done?.

Sounds like a developmental spurt - if so, it'll pass. There's one at about 55 weeks (adjust for whether LO was born early/late) & usually the effects are seen beforehand. Sleep / behaviour changes & problems also go with it.

Fussiness etc is normal - DS had a long (3 month) refusal of all vegetables at this stage.

I once heard you should think about what a toddler eats during the course of a week rather than day by day - then work out if you think their nutrition is OK. It's worked for me and my children's weird phases. All are good and healthy eaters now but they've been through some odd, non eating yet bags of energy times.

DD is my first too and also 14m. And she is also running around like a loon right now. So I'm guessing developmental spurt is right. I just keep telling myself it will stop soon.

My 15-month-old has been like this for the past month or so, but now seems to be calming down a lot. So hopefully this phase will be over soon for you?
