12 month old gagging/vomiting on chunky food

My 12 mo DS is a healthy little boy. Eats good portions and is not fussy about flavours (eats brocolli, spinach, courgettes, garlic, parsley, onions and all kinds of cuisines quite happily). However he gags quite often on lumpy food and throws up quite dramatically. He sometimes continues to eat after vomitting and sometimes he wants no more. He is fine and healthy in himself but seems to have real issues with fork mashed food and non pureed stuff. Does not like finger foods of any kind either. Eats blackberries through a mesh quite happily though. He has two teeth on top and two on the bottom gum. However he uses them to bite and does not make any chewing motions..swallows and sucks food. Drinks well from a cup and a beaker as well.

I dont quite know what to do. He has started nursery a few weeks ago and has taken to the food here, but his dramatic throwing up is worrying me. His key workers here are happy to give him pureed food..and I dont know what to say to them.

please help/ advise/ guide as I am reaching the end of my worry rope because I am torn into two - let him eat pureed stage 2 foods and be happy and healthy. Or stop babying him and give him stage 3 and normal grown up food and help him learn.

How does he do with 'finger' foods?

Does not like finger food. Plays with it, sucks it a bit if he is in the mood..and then throws it away. Has never finished a biscuit or a cracker or even a cucumber stick :(

If it's any consolation, DS1 was just like this - he was on stage 2 foods way past 1. Eventually he just started to get the hang of lumps - it was a very slow process though. I think we mixed stage 2 foods with some baby pasta shapes to start with, and went from there. He's 3 now and you wouldn't know he was slow to eat lumps! He still has an incredibly sensitive gag reflex, and is very inclined to throw up - I think that was probably the source of his problems with lumps when he was little.

My DS is 1 and the same. I wouldn't dream of giving him a biscuit, he just can't handle it.
He can handle some rice cakes but not great tbh.
I have decided he will get it eventually there's no rush. I try not to worry about it. He eats a good variety of flavours and textures and will get the hang of chewing and swallowing eventually.
My HV isn't concerned.

Sorry no advice but you are not alone!
