Best high chair?

Hi, Will be starting weaning soon and just wondered what you think the best high chair is? Want something easy to clean and adjustable height as we eat at breakfast bar and table...thanks!

These threads usually come down to either the Trip Trap which is a nice piece of wooden furniture, you can get it in a variety of colours or paint it to suit, it makes a great chair for many years and adults can sit on it (but it's ££) or the Antilop from Ikea (about £15) which has removable legs (so good for taking places) and is easy to clean but kids grow out of it more quickly.

Antilop is not adjustable height wise. Trip trap is.

(Trip trap is not easily tipped over, you just need to put the bits on the back of the legs.... just getting in there first )

A vote for the antilop here! It's easy to clean, light to move, big tray, CHEAP and I like the no fuss style.

Antilop. I don't think anything is high enough for a breakfast bar anyway.

Antilop is brilliant. Hose it in the garden, dish washer it or stick in the shower. With or without baby.

i started a similar thread years ago when i needed a highchair for dd1. i was in forst time mum mode and didnt want a "cheap" high chair so ignored all the recomendations for the ikea highchair. i cant remember the make of the one i got but it was over 100 pounds and did all the reclining, height adjusatle blah blah. after spending god knows how long picking food out of all the nooks and crannies i wish i had listened to the wisdom of mn

It is v hard if not impossible to get a high chair for breakfast bar height. (if anyone can recommend one, great). We use an adult height adjustable bar stool with a travel booster cushion strapped on, and DD strapped in to the booster seat. But I'm 99% sure it would NOT meet any safety regs - DD could kick hard and tip the bar stool & herself back onto the floor. She is a pretty passive child and I've taught her not to kick, but if you go for a similar solution, do be aware of the risks.

ikea one is brilliant! can't recommend it highly enough, soooo easy to clean, easy to get baby into, lovely big tray and only £15. like parietal i also bought an expensive one and it's now sitting in the kitchen unused as it's a huge pain in the backside to clean.

We have a couple of imitation triptraps for dc1 and 2 but i won't be moving dc3 into them as she is sooo happy in the antilop.

Another vote for the antilop - no fuss, no bother and very easy to clean. FWIW the first few weeks of introducing food we used the Bumbo with its tray.

Oh yes antilop for sure. I took mine on caravan holidays by taking legs off. Regularly jet washed it in the garden to keep it nice and fresh whilst my friends all attacked their mamas and papas ones with flash wipes!

I'm another one who wished they'd listened to MN wisdom and bought the Antilop first time round. But no, I had to spend about a hundred pounds on a poncey one from Mamas and Papas that I thought my darling PFB would be more comfortable in. It filled up most of my kitchen and was a total bastard to clean. With DC2, I'll be buying the Antilop, no question.

FeelingHip Brother Max Scoop - that is one sexy bit of kit! That would be lovely at a breakfast bar!! It's not as kiddie friendly as the Trip Trap which is easy for them to get into themselves from a very young age, but it looks lush & would be fab for a breakfast bar!!

Being a first time Mum with PFB and wanting a really nice lookng piece of furniture type high chair I did research and got a Svan. Have to say I do love it. Similar concept to the trip trapp in that it grows with child so from first weaning through to adulthood, totally adjustable. Can use with or without tray. I find it dead easy to keep clean and LOVE how you can carry it along walking behind it without banging your legs. Doesn't take up too much space either. We thought it was more attractive then tripp trap. Pricey though. Got it from Kiddy care for £150 including cusion, tray and plastic tray cover.

Thanks for all the replies..ChippingIn - do you think it just looks lush but isn't practical?! I'm after something practical & comfy for baby (yes, PFB!) but since it's an open plan room, i don't want something ugly either ; )

I am starting to be swayed by the Antilop, though it doesn't look very comfy?

We have a Tripp Trapp. Although not cheap in the initial outlay it is worth every penny imo. Ours was bought when DD was 5yo and has been in almost daily use sie then and DD is now just turned 9y. It is now in chair mode and we all use it at times.

Don't get the whole but the tripp trap turns into a chair thing, erm why don't u just use a chair?

Antilop is brilliant - in regards to comfort, you can get an inflatable cushion to use when they're starting out - it goes around the back and sides, and don't forget the baby has a nice cushiony nappy to sit on! I love the fact that you can chuck the whole thing into the shower, and it was so cheap!

I thought the Antilop didn't look comfy, too, but having seen him in them since, he was fine!! I think they sell a cushion bit now to help support them when you're first weaning, but I'm not sure. Someone earlier mentioned using a bumbo and tray at first - that's a brilliant idea. Definitely comfy AND easy to clean! We used ours as a travel highchair for a while and it was great.

I also feed my LOs at the breakfast bar and dining table, and have a Fisher Price booster seat that I strap to either a high bar chair or to a dining chair. It's super sturdy, has adjustable feet so can go up and down as necessary, has a tray that clips on so can be used as a chair at the table as well as a high chair, is portable, is all wipeable and is the best £30 I ever spent.

Antilop. All the way. I went to my friend's house and used her posh, all bells and whistles highchair and it was minging. Impossible to clean those nooks and crannies. My Antilop has a few scratch marks from being chucked in the back of the car but is otherwise spotless, with very little effort on my part.

It fits under our breakfast bar, which sadly we only use to dump stuff on.

My DS has always been very happy in it too. He was tiny so we supplemented the inflatable cushion with a couple of teatowels.
