Is there a Stardew Valley Thread?

Hi All

I am not really much of a gamer, but have found myself absolutely obsessed with Stardew Valley.

I love the escapism, how open and free I am in the world, and how I can pursue my own interests and still advance.

I'm currently mid way through my second year. I watched a couple of YouTube videos yesterday and get the feeling that there is so much to be discovered yet. I wondered if anyone fancied giving an intro to their farm and sharing some tips and inspiration?

I'd really appreciate an intro into how is best to lay out the farm. I find myself just plonking buildings wherever which isn't the best use of space or the most visually pleasing way to do things.

Bump for anyone simultaneously playing and MNing.

Hi Claudia I have zero tips sorry but just downloaded it this week on my mobile as I've been off work sick... I have no clue what I'm doing but it's kept me entertained!

There have been previous threads but I don't think there's an active one. I don't have an active game at the moment, my previous game I got up to year 4 I think (I play on PC). I'm glad the developer has added more late game content though, when I was playing it in earnest there wasn't much else to do once yr2 was over which is why I moved on to other games...
I recommend once you've got the hang of it just starting over - it's amazing how much more money you can earn in your first season once you know what you're doing vs your first run through where you don't have a clue!

Re building layout, a lot will depend on which farm type you're playing, but one tip is to try and place buildings on "non-tillable" tiles where possible so you can maximise your growing space. Also, it helps to put your stable close to your house rather than the far corner like I did the first time Wink

I've not heard of it before. Is it something that can be picked up and put down without much time commitment? I'm looking for something I can play when I need to put my mind into idle, without endlessly cycling between mn and social media.

You have to play a day at a time (the game only saves each time you go to bed at night) so the smallest time commitment is a single "in game day". It's way too tempting to just play "1 more day" though Wink.
However it is also what you make it - there are plenty of players who just use it to relax, do a bit of farming, fishing or chatting to villagers and have fun, however if you're the type of person who likes to maximise your production and profit on the goods you make then it's not necessarily relaxing - there can be a fair amount of planning each "game morning" working out the best way to spend your "game day" - I was the latter kind of player Wink.

I took your advice @scissy and restarted yesterday evening. I have gone for the farm layout with lots of islands which is proving challenging to plan, but then again I am really loving the layout. I love having an island for my sheep.

Yes, I've just started my second farm - a beach farm this time. I'm also a guy and married to Shane :) I think there is loads more new content with the 1.5 expansion, but I'm afraid of getting spoiled so I haven't noticed much of it so far.

I have a forest farm and I love it. This game is saving my sanity. I am rubbish at fishing though.

Anyone else have ostriches?

I love Stardew Valley. I'm on my 3rd farm layout, the new beach one. First two times I got bored once I'd finished the community centre but the new update made me start again for all the extra content

I know this is an old thread, but it was the only Stardew Valley one around, so decided to revive it instead of creating a new one. Smile

I'm a massive Stardew Valley fan and I wish I knew more people who played it. I am on Year 10 in the game! (Yes I probably spend way too much time on it....)
I find it's a great way to waste a bit of time and relax. I like tending the crops and farm animals, doing little tasks and achieving various goals - and accumulating money. I'm not in a big rush to finish all the sub-plots which is why it has taken so long.

I've got dinosaurs and ostriches, and all the different types of slimes in my slime hutch. I don't think I've managed to complete the museum collection yet - that's next on my list once I've completed the Monster Eradication goals.

More accomplished stardew valley players.. are you bored enough to give some tips to a total novice? - so far I feel like it’s an intelligence test I’m failing!

Main question is - how do you fish? I cast my rod & get a bite, but can’t start the mini game - ok I managed once! Is that just how it goes or am in pressing the wrong buttons? Thanks!

Ps. Jealous of those with dinosaurs & slime! Feel like I’m playing s different game!

I love stardew too! It's one of the few games I can actually play with my partner on the PlayStation as I'm not very good at gaming.
