Assassin's Creed from xbox.com?

I know nothing about xbox or the games for it, but my brother asked for Assassin's Creed Odyssey or Valhalla for Christmas. He has an Xbox One. I looked in Smyth's a couple of weeks ago and got confused and thought it was quite pricey. Looking at online purchasing it seems to be much cheaper than buying a boxed copy. For example, on Epicgames.com it lists Assassin's Creed Odyssey Standard Edition at £14.99.

Can anyone advise me if that's the best way to buy games, or if there is a drawback to doing it that way? Or, if there's another site I should try, like game.co.uk? And, will I have to just give him the money, or if I go through and register can I buy it as a gift and get a code or something?

Lastly, he's not particularly coordinated, for various reasons, so is that game likely to be within his capabilities if he plays it on whatever the simplest level is, or is it not worth trying do you think? I know that's hard to judge without knowing him!

Sorry to give loads of questions, but I hope someone can give me some advice, because I find the web sites incredibly confusing to a non-gamer!

Hello,

Looking at Epic Games, I think that's the PC version, which wouldn't run on his Xbox. Valhalla is just newly out, so it will be tend to be more expensive. However, looking at Game and Xbox store, the digital prices for Odyssey are ridiculous, similar to what they would have been on release.

Amazon currently has Odyssey for Xbox One as a disc for £21.99 but it won't come before Christmas. Valhalla is a special limited deal there at £39.99. My quick look around various sites suggests it's going to be cheaper to get it as a disc. Smyths don't seem to have Odyssey at all.

In terms of game play, I can't speak to Valhalla as I haven't played it yet, but it likely plays in a similar way to Odyssey, which I have. There is a need for co-ordination in the fighting, climbing buildings etc, but I wouldn't say it is overly complex once you get the hang of the controls. He'll be able to select how the enemies scale in relation to the level his own character is at.

Odyssey is enormous and stunningly beautiful, you can spend hours just exploring, taking in the sites, sailing your ship and I loved it just for that alone. He might enjoy that aspect too and again Valhalla will be similar in its scope and size and also has ships to sail.

Hope this helps a bit - perhaps getting him an Amazon voucher and he can choose which to get depending on whether the deals are still on.

@Flatfishray
Oh, that's really useful thank you so much - I thought I'd filtered everywhere to just xbox games, but obviously failed on the Epic Games site!
This page:

www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/assassins-creed-odyssey

says that the Ultimate Edition is just £27.59 which appears to be a special deal, does that look right? Or, deluxe at just over £20.

Yes, those are really good deals - I hadn't noticed them!

The Ultimate is the best one to get as that has absolutely everything including the season pass which gives a lot of additional content. The season pass alone was about £24.99 when the game came out.

Clicking on it and going to the page where you buy it, there's a "buy it as a gift option" to click on, which should make it nice and straightforward.

I honestly think he'll love Odyssey, so much to do in it and such a good looking game
