Start using Mumsnet PremiumI want to buy a retro games console for my (soon to be) 8 year old. Recommendations please.
(12 Posts)He already has a Sega which he has really enjoyed. He loves puzzle type games where you’re working stuff out and solving problems.
I don’t want him on a brand new console playing Fortnite, but I don’t mind getting him a retro one. Obviously there’s PlayStation, X-box and Wii but I have no idea what might be great for him as well as some classic games that’s hex enjoy.
“Retro” is a debatable term.
How retro are we talking?
Playstation Classic? Brand new console but modelled on the old PS1 with some classic games pre installed.
Nintendo 64, I have one as an adult after having one as a child. I love it!
Im looking at the bundles on eBay that have the games on CDs. I guess I’m thinking the 90’s or the naughties.
Wii is retro now? We still have ours & I played it a couple of weeks ago.
I feel old.
We have a mini NES and mini SNES that came pre loaded with a bunch of games. Not sure if they're easy to get now though.
My nine year olds are enjoying the wii but it looks so old fashioned in terms of graphics etc we're getting a switch for Christmas.
Ha ha I am old!! I just want something that isn’t crazy money and has age appropriate games.
Nintendo GameCube - Pikmin would be a suitable game, it has a puzzley feel. Also Super Mario Sunshine is just lovely.
My nearly-9 is getting a Wii - he loves Mario so we are getting that game too. Birthday early Jan (he has a birthday calendar he's made, aaargh!)
