Xbox - which one do I buy??!!

I have decided to buy an xbox as the main present for our younger children. The older 2 girls have never shown any interest in this at all so it's all new to me!
The younger 2 are a girl, nearly 10 and a boy, nearly 7. They don't have experience of gaming on an xbox but my girl likes Sims and Minecraft on the computer. The younger boy doesn't really have any experience.
So, seeing as both are new to this and won't use it for hours, I think I can see an xbox is the way to go rather than the newer version (is it an S?!). But there still seems to be lots of variants and I don't understand any of it! Husband doesn't game, we literally have no idea!!
Can anyone suggest what I get?!
thank you!

Another question!!

Is there a way to get something like an xbox one but have no live bit, i.e. I don't want them to connect and open themselves up to complete strangers. So can they use and xbox one without being live or do the games need to played as live? (I'm sorry if this terminology is all wrong, I really have no clue!).

You don’t need Xbox Live to play Minecraft. I’m not too sure about other games, sorry.

Thank you, do you have an Xbox one? If so, does it do everything you need it to do?

Can I post links to a deal here?
You can’t go wrong with this one:

www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xbox-one-s-500gb-with-6-games-assassins-creed-origins-dishonored-2-doom-fallout-4-cod-ww2-forza-7-20970-shopto-2821491

it’s an absolutely fantastic deal and a steal at this price.

You don’t need the live subscription to play single player games but you would need it to play multiplayer games online. At 10 and 7 I really don’t think you need a subscription.

You can’t chat I believe without Xbox live . That’s separate , you can play games which have chat function so may be able to chat online within the game via WiFi which you link up to download games/updates.
My son had Xbox at 10. I was quite impressed by parental controls. I can’t remember it to pass on instructions as they had it a few years now and they are allowed to chat to friends mine via Xbox live.
Xbox one x is the latest. I picked up a 2nd Xbox one in CEX for 100 cheaper with box 2 year guarantee, with box etc.
If your not sure and there is one local good place to check out for deals and not lose too much money if you/DC not sure
Definitely stick with the one. My lad said it’s just a bit faster and graphics the one x, you need a 4K ready tv I think but I could be wrong to get the full benefits. From a gamer mum I recon the Xbox one is the one you want.

Most games are played without using live. You will need an internet connection for updates and buying games etc. You need to pay to play online anyway (gold membership) they wont be able to play games online without it. The games you mentioned dont need to be played online.

We have an xbox one as use it as an entertainment system aswell. We run netflix, amazon prime and dvds through it. You can also watch iplayer, now tv etc.

I have also been looking at this and I think we are going with the Xbox one S 1tb. Everywhere has the 500mb one with minecraft for £199.

The deal above looks good but surely those games are all adult/much older child? Is t call of duty an 18??!

@umizoomi @Janus
trade the games in for cash at CEX

AC Origins £35
Dishonored 2 £1.50
Doom £2
Fallout 4 £1.50
Call of Duty £35
Forza £24

that gives you £99

So you’re getting a new Xbox One S console for £100.99

If you're buying an Xbox for Christmas, turn it on and load the games BEFORE Christmas day.

It takes hours to load the games which could lead to very frustrated kids.

Janus yes we have the Xbox one s.* it’s perfect for 9 year old dd she just plays Minecraft and Lego games. I definitely wouldn’t of paid for the more expensive one I see that as more for the serious gamer.*

And definitely what DiscoSloth said!! We had really slow broadband last Christmas and it did take nearly all day to download the games! I thought disk games instantly played!

DS1 (9) and DS(2) want one. He only trouble is that it would be in DS1 room and they fall out regularly...

Can they both play on one Xbox or would they have to take in turns?

They will definitively want minecraft, Lego, Star Wars etc. Do these games split screen etc?

Thinking we might but 2 A’s it’s £50 for another controller anyway so for the extra £150 we could have another console and different game...

Alll thoughts from those who know appreciates

Them games do have split screens and so can play together. We got ours last year around Black Friday and they had some great deals with free games and extra controllers so keep an eye out. I think you can buy generic controllers for a lot cheaper too.

Thank you all so much.
So I think I’ll wait until Black Friday (whenever that is!!) and buy an Xbox one then, will look to see if they have 2 controllers as I’d like them to share games.
Thank you so much, I’d really have no clue!
