I preordered from Amazon and it came today, played for a couple of hours while the small one was at nursery now waiting for everyone to go to bed so I can continue!

So far I'm missing DJ Three Dog but everything else is spot on.

I very nearly picked this up for myself easier today. I haven't played any of the Fallout games, but did lose a large chunk of my life to Skyrim (damn you Teldryn Sero) so wondered about this.

How are you finding it and what are you playing it on?

Sorry for minor hijack... what makes it an 18 rating? My 12 yr old is pestering for this for xmas. Apparently "all my friends are getting it..." he says. I can't find any info on net though. What is language, violence and nudity like?

Fallout 4 is very violent. Parents can be peculiarly relaxed about letting their kids play games which, were they a film, would not necessarily be permitted viewing. That said I think it slightly depends on the kid. I loved watching (unbeknownst to parents) very scary films when I was in my early teens and I think in some ways that's the best age to watch horror films. I also think the context (wandering round a post-apocalyptic wasteland) sort of vindicates the violence. It reminds me a lot of Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road, albeit with a hefty dose of satire thrown in. Kids can get that book from the library should they wish, and I think it's way more disturbing.

Thanks palerfire. Never read the book The Road but have seen the movie (very emotive!). I see your point about the context.

Argh... so frustrating that ds is in this 'in between' stage for games.

How are you finding it? I bloody love it, only got into the fallout games this year, played 3 and new Vegas. Really like the new additions like building.

Got it and loving it am really liking the settlement building but I think electrickery may be beyond me.

I absolutely love love LOVE it! However, as a Sims fan I'm not sure what I feel about the settlement building - because I'm not very good at it but want to build brilliant settlements Grin. I'm level 29 and very leisurely making my way through the quests.

mintbiscuit - yes palerfire is right, it is very violent and gory. Quite a few jump scare bits as well which I wouldn't recommend. Nudity is nothing to be worried about.

Destiny and Halo I think are ok for his age - they are still shooters but Destiny is more about the multiplayer, capture the flag type games; Halo is all killing aliens. Halo 5 just came out as well. No bad language, nudity or gore unless you enable the online chat stuff.

Sunset Boulevard is also good. Again, a shooter but you're killing mutated people (hard to explain!) and you can turn the bad language off.

Really enjoying it here, McCready is my companion of choice.

Pastamancer

I agree I'm using him on my 3rd character a sharpshooter and using his bug that instead of giving +20% with his max affinity perk when aiming at the head in VATS it gives +2000% so I insta-kill almost every enemy in one shot on survival at level 42

I'm a hopeless romantic and am in a relationship with him Blush

I haven't done a charisma build yet so failed on my attempt with Cait Sad

I really need to do one and finish this one by Feb 5th (xcom 2)

Aw how cute! A post apocalyptic romance! Grin

I might give that a go tonight. I'm about level 35 so my charisma is pretty high.

I've been playing this game this week. I'm sort of struggling to get into it. I'm just at the very start. Haven't played any other Fallout games.

I have lost my big robot suit though. Do you think I will have to keep searching until I find it or can I make another?

Report
FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 06/01/2016 19:01

Owl you'll find loads on your wanderings don't worry. You'll get into it more once the basics are laid down and you can just wander about looking for quests and stuff.

That's what I'm struggling with. I wandered one way and got eaten. Then wandered the other and had to ditch the suit that was out of power and run for it.

I'm now in Sanctuary making the first camp, but I have had to Google a lot of it.

I got Skyrim and found it so big that I was paralysed with indecision. I want to stick with this though!

I don't bother with power armour normally, I only used it for fighting the initial deathclaw until the fusion core ran out and then used another set to travel across the glowing sea to Virgil. Pretty much the whole point of the game is just wandering around exploring and picking up side quests. There is a main story quest to follow but that is only a tiny part of the game.

McCready is very happy to share a bed with me, even single ones so not gay. DH is a right perv though and is in a relationship with Curie, she isn't even human

Can I join in? Just started yesterday and it ate my day off Grin

Oh and also yy to not bothering with power armour. Don't worry about using it OwlCurrency, it's not needed for the majority of the game.

Ooh! I didn't know this was here - I bought a PS4 just after Christmas with my money and Fallout 4 was my first purchase Grin I'm perhaps a third of the way through it? Not sure really, I like to do all the side quests before trundling on with the main storyline! At the moment I'm travelling with Hancock who I find hysterical. Nick Valentine is fabulous too!

I hope it's not needed! I'm such a coward that I won't go back to look for it until I have levelled up hugely.

Is everyone playing as a female character?

Report
Pastamancer · 07/01/2016 17:03

A couple of thoughts, apologies if you already know these but they may be helpful.

Hacking terminals:
When you get the screen and have to guess the password, there will be lots of random characters. If you can see an open and close bracket in order on the same line without any words in between them then you can choose that and it will either remove an incorrect option or reset the number of tries you have. The type of brackets this works with are . (), {} and []. Hope that makes sense, if you choose a valid bracket the it will automatically highlight the whole thing so you know you can choose it. This isn't really needed for novice but makes the tough ones much easier.

Perks:
Each time you level up you can choose a different perk. You don't have to go down the columns in order so if there is a perk you want that is the 4th one down you don't have to choose 1-3 first. DH and I didn't realise this at first and ended up wasting a load of perk points on things we didn't really need at first

Thanks for the tips, pasta.

You know what I found inexplicable was the crafting menu. I stood at the table for ages wondering why I couldn't make a bed. Then realised that I was supposed to walk to place it somewhere...

I'm glad no one was watching me play it!
