(33 Posts)If I tell you what I like and don't like, please could you make some recommendations for my next game?
Loved: Dragon Age Inquisition, Skyrim.
Historically liked: Portal, Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Myst/Riven, Diablo, LA Noire.
Disliked: The Last of Us (visually beautiful, but I found it quite stressful and didn't finish it), Diablo III, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition.
PS4 or Xbox 360. Was looking at Broken Sword 5, but fear that it would be all over in 15 hours and am spoiled by 100+ epics.
Any suggestions would be great.
I've recommended it on here before, but Witcher 3 is all kinds of awesome, currently on my second play through. Loads of missions, quests and places to explore, lots of different game endings. You might also like the Fall Out games, or the Uncharted games, they're both good. A mate of mine swears by Bloodbourne right now. There's a beta of Star Wars battlefront right now you can play for free on the PS4. Have you looked at Twitch? You can see people playing live, gives you a great idea of what the gameplay is like and you can ask the gamer questions as well.
Thank you, I'll check those out (and thanks for Twitch tip).
I've hesitated over Fallout and Uncharted because they seemed like games where you needed to be there from the beginning. Do you think that's the case? Although I think I saw the whole Uncharted series remastered for PS4 in my browsing, so I'll go back and have a look at that now
I think fallout is fairly standalone, there's been an apocalypse and you are trying to survive. New Vegas is really good.
Fable games are good, as are the mass effect games. Similar gameplay in mass effect to Dragon age.
I've been looking into witcher for a while, it looks very like skyrim in style, is this the case? Of so I want it!
Dh loves the uncharted series, and I've watched him play them all because the story is so good (I love to swing a sword about but pretty useless with a gun!). You can jump in at a later game, but new pack looks like good value. There should be a Twitch app coming out soon, make is easier to use. I don't use the site much, but dh is a huge fan of Destiny and watches it quite a lot. I've a couple friends who broadcast there too, next time I'm looking for a game it's where I'm headed! Both dh and I are playing Witcher 3 tonight - he's getting to a really exciting part in the main story and it's really hard not to talk about what's going to happen - great storyline as well.
I love Witcher partly because it reminds me of Skyrim! Lots of swords, missions, monsters and gorgeous scenery. Lots of difficult choices to make. One of the areas, Skellige, is awfully like Skyrim, and it's people are often fairly Nordish/Viking like. And I love the main character, Geralt. He's all professional and cold one minute, then shows a wry sense of humour and compassion the next. I've spent a lot more time laughing along with this game than I expected to. It is more grown up than Skyrim, more bad language and some sex scenes if you choose to romance some of the characters (everyone I know who plays the game has). There is nudity, and it's pretty gruesome at times so we don't play it around our ds - I read it described as Skyrim meets Game Of Thrones - a pretty good description!
Thank you both, I've looked at some gameplay videos and have to say I'm pretty sold on Witcher 3!
Feel the same way about guns/swords, I looked at Uncharted and didn't understand the gun stuff.
Thank you for mentioning Fable as well - another one I've looked at a few times. If only I didn't have this JOB getting in the way of my gaming time, I could play them all.
Yay! You'll have to tell us how you get on if you buy it, I love a good Witcher chat . I love the idea of Fable too, but don't have an Xbox (and given the number of other consoles we have, it's not going to happen). Is it bad that part of me is happy ds is back at nursery next week so I can get more time gaming? I'll have to return to work at some point, but making the most of the time at home by sitting about playing video games one morning a week!
I recently bought an Xbox just to re-play fable...
Ex was an Xbox gamer, current dp is a PlayStation guy. I missed some of my Xbox games so got myself a new toy!
Ordered Witcher 3 - £25 from Game - bargain.
Also got Fable Anniversary, so that's me sorted for Autumn/Winter.
Will let you know how I get on
Get Fable 2
Just popped back to update with my initial thoughts on Witcher 3.
After the 18gb patch downloaded I'm about 7 hours in.
Like the story, like the humour. Combat is interesting, I need to work on using defence, etc. The levelling up/skill branches are all a bit confusing still, but that's standard for me. Good balance of backstory/lore to action, in comparison to DAI in particular which was a bit heavy on the codex.
Totally hooked already
Is Witcher 3 only for xbox one, not 360? I have a 360 and am running out of things to play. Loved Skyrim so Witcher sounds awesome, but not if it's only for the one!
"I have a 360 and am running out of things to play."
Have you played Red Dead Redemption and the add-on Undead Nightmare?
Also, Sleeping Dogs and Alan Wake?
Yes to Red Dead and the add on. No to Sleeping Dogs and Alan Wake. Thanks Made, looking at them now.
Witcher 3 is only for PS4, PC and X-Box One, I'm afraid.
Orange you might like Fallout - same kind of open world play. Or Dishonoured is pretty good and has some supernatural elements. You can get all The Walking Dead games for free on Gold at the moment (although I admit I don't know if that's specific to Xbox One.) Also some scary one is cheap - The Evil Within I think? It's all games for about £20.
I have booked three days off for when Fallout 4 comes out on the 10th
And even if you don't like the type, I simply have to recommend Bioshock as it's my most favourite EVER
"I simply have to recommend Bioshock"
Oh yes, fantastic game!
MadeMan - I've played the first one about 8 times I think I like playing it almost to the end and then just wandering round looking at stuff.
Bioshock 2 and Infinite are also great
Oooo Bioshock! Thank you, I forgot I wanted to try that! I guess I should start at the beginning with it?
"Bioshock 2 and Infinite are also great"
Yeah I'll have to get around to playing them at some point; they are both sitting in my 'games yet to play' pile in a cupboard.
System Shock 2 (which is supposedly what the Bioshock series was loosely followed from), is very good too if you like cyberpunk themes; I think it's available on Steam if you have a PC or laptop. The graphics might seem a bit dated these days compared to the realism of modern games, but in my opinion the clean sterile look of the textures and low polygon models make it seem more other-worldly somehow; same with the original Half Life game. Worth playing in the dark with headphones on.
The original Dead Space is very good as well on 360, although I'm only about half way through so far.
Orange you could play them out of order, but best not to. They do loosely link together with the storylines.
I'm going to check out system shock - I only play Sims 3 on pc really!
I've been catching up with Wolfenstein yesterday - I got to a bit I couldn't complete ages ago so put it to one side. Passed it on the first go ??
Oh that ?? Should have been
