Wii U Controller help

I am thinking about getting DC a Wii U for Xmas. Can anyone explain the controllers for this... I am clueless. It appears to come with a Gamepad. Is this the controller? Do you only get one? I can't seem to see them sold separately so how do more than one person join in the games? Help!

The game pad is the main controller. You can buy additional Wii remote Plus & nunchucks which are compatible.

and you can get an Xbox type.controller which is quite handy. We have one with the controller is comes with which is very popular, and i bought an x bix type Wii controller at the same time (can't remember what's its called sorry) which the second player uses if they are playing 2 player games. Then we have the 2 nunchuck and wiiremotes from the old Wii which are used for player 3 and 4 when we play family Mario kart 8.

so basically what comes in the bix is everything you need, but for one player only. I'd get the xbox style controller for wiiU as well (20/30 quid?) for a friend/you to help with games etc.

Pretty much, yes. But you can get cheaper compatible controllers or second hand ones from places like Game, Cex etc

Thank you! That's very helpful. One more question if I may...are the steering wheels any good and am I right in thinking they need to 'plug in' to the existing controllers?

You have to put a controller into the wheel. There's a slot in front for it to go in.

I like the wiiremote plus wheel when playing mario kart but the kids can also use the gamepad and xbox style controller (wii U pro controller I believe its called) as well - slightly different motion with the gamepad. I'd get a couple of wheels if you can, sometimes they come with the driving game, or you can get non wii ones pretty cheap.

I love the way the Wii U gamepad enhances the game, particularly Lego City.

Great piece of kit, we also run us netflix through it so it's win win.

The Wii U is a great console with some really really good games.

As far as I'm aware you can't buy the Wii U gamepads on their own, so make sure the kids look after the one bundled with the console. You can buy other controllers separately like the Wii U Remote and Wii U Pro Controller, but the gamepad is the main one to use for Miiverse and setting things up.

If you already have an original Wii you can use all the accessories and games from that too.

Oh and I would recommend getting either the Mario Kart 8 premium console pack, or the Splatoon premium console pack; both are brilliant must have games. Smile

Make sure whatever Wii U console you get is the 32GB version (usually black), not the 8GB basic version (usually white).
