Vegan documentary recommendations

I've watched What the Health (Netflix), Vegucated (Amazon) and How Not to Die (Amazon). Just wondered if there are any other documentaries you'd recommend? Can't seem to find Forks Over Knives - must have been taken off Netflix and Amazon. I'm particularly interested in UK films if any good ones exist. Thanks!

Not exactly what you asked for, but it's very interesting listening and food for thought.

If you have a strong stomach, Dominion. However, it's not easy watching and I couldn't watch it all! Joaquin Phoenix helped make it.

PS I believe Dominion is free to watch on youtube and other sites.

@Sendmetobarbados my pleasure!

If you're interested in youtube, I can highly recommend Earthling Ed's channel, he gives some great lectures and other videos, debates etc with non-vegans and seems to have an answer to every possible non-vegan argument, so it's eye opening if you want to know the facts and also get clued up on morality etc. Really highly recommended. (And not so full on like the earlier docs I recommended)!!

Game Changers on Netflix.

Land of Hope and Glory is U.K. based but very graphic and sad- www.landofhopeandglory.org/

I second the reccommendation to watch DOMINION.

//www.dominionmovement.com

If you have a cat or a dog or any pet really, you should watch the first five minutes of this film which exposes the common treatment of animals who become our meat products, commonplace in AUSTRALIA and ALSO in the U.K., no doubt.
(Free to watch online, if you haven't already, it's time to be informed). I'm not asking you to be an animal rights activist, but after viewing this, you may become one. At the very least, you can ask for higher standards for the protection of animals.

Thanks for the new tips. All on my list. Off topic but if anyone's interested in podcasts I'm currently enjoying Chickpeeps.

The Game Changers was the one that inspired me to try out Veganuary. I loved it and am sticking with plant based diet for the forseeable future. Even DH joined in and is happy to eat what I cook.

I did watch Dominion yesterday . It was terribly disturbing - a real life horror film. It cemented my thoughts about not eating animal products. It's a shame I waited 52 years to make that decision.

I had the same experience after watching Vegucated and What the Health, @libertynan. I want to watch Dominion but feel like I need to be emotionally prepared first. Sounds like a tough but necessary watch.

I can't bring myself to watch Dominion. When I was 18 or 19 I watched The Misfits with Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. It has a prolonged scene where wild horses are violently trapped and tied up; it can't have been staged, and I was so distressed by it that I was crying inconsolably and shouting at the TV, much to the bemusement and irritation of my student flatmates. And I wasn't vegan or even vegetarian at that point! If I'd watched Dominion then I'm sure it would have converted me for life. But now I am vegan; I know about the realities of the meat and dairy industries. I know I would find this film heart-wrenching, I know it would make me angry and want to tell meat eaters about it and try to make them see it too. But I'm not sure what good that would do in the bigger picture, I think I would just become another angry vegan people roll their eyes about.

I'm much more led to the sort of activism that Earthling Ed does - measured, appeals to logic as well as emotion, helps me think through my own choices and assumptions.

That's an interesting point @AlmightyBob and is assuaging my guilt over 'wussing out' of watching these hard-hitting documentaries! I'm already vegan and have no intention of going back. Earthling Ed sounds great. Will have a look at his videos.

Got a new tip for anyone who fancies a bit of a different watch. Simon Amstell's mockumentary, Carnage. It's not new but it's still on iplayer - www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p04sh6zg/simon-amstell-carnage

It imagines a world in the future where no one eats meat or dairy and it manages to be funny as well as thought-provoking.

I'm not saying you need to turn vegan - although that is really great if you are.

You should watch Dominion movement (available online for free) to - at the very least - join those who are petitioning for better rights for the protection of animals. If you don't want to know what goes in abattoirs, okay. If you think you know what goes on, ethical treatment and such, then you really don't. Not until you see this film. You can, as I did, sign a petition asking for the creation of a governing body that will regulate standards. Asking for higher standards is the very least you can do, if you believe they should be protected from brutality in their final minutes of life. As I do.

This is my very mild reaction to having my eyes opened by this documentary. Even my husband, white male privileged meat-lover, turned to me and said 'That's awful. We should eat less meat.'

If you're already vegan you really don't need to see Dominion. You already know meat production is cruel, you don't need to force yourself to watch it!

Cowspiracy tackles the environmental aspects of livestock production and is good for giving you facts based comebacks to some common myths about veganism.

Thanks for reminding me about Carnage, @Sendmetobarbados. I have heard good things about it before, I'll definitely take a look. Cowspiracy sounds good too, @Providora .

@lexxi185 , as I said - I am vegan, and I'm vegan because I don't even believe in the concept of 'ethical farming', much less assume that's the reality.

@lexxi185 Do you have any links to a petition on this? I looked on change.org but there are so many on that site.

@AlmightyBob Hope you enjoy Carnage. It's a good one to recommend to friends because it tackles the subject in a funny, non-judgy way (even taking the piss out of vegans to make the point!).
