What do you order from an Indian takeaway/restaurant? I love aubergine and mushrooms - would a bhajee be vegan? I usually have Chana masala but I want to find a new dish.

Alot of Indian food is cooked in ghee, which is dairy, so not vegan at all. You's have to ring and ask whether they have anything vegan. Many of vegetarian though.

With all the ghee used, Indian food is fine for vegetarians, but not vegans.
You'd have to ask your restaurant/takeaway what they suggest and whether they will cook without the ghee for you.

I am also trying to cut out dairy from my diet and always ask the staff serving me and also ask them to double check with the chef. My local Indian restaurant uses milk in most of the naans and other breads .
Try cauliflower with potatoes or daals. Also if they make vegetable kofte not the ones made with paneer. Each restaurant will have its own recipe so I am afraid you will have check every time. Hopefully all restaurants will soon start labelling their dishes.

Sabji? It’s basically curried vegetables.
Aloo is potato, gobi is cauliflowers etc...depends what you put in it. Plus rice.

I tend to order a selection of sides, more interesting than just one main.
