Vegan

If you have a non-vegan partner, how do you manage meals?

Just wondering, if you cook a meal for your partner, would you ever cook using meat/animal products for them? My BF will usually have the same thing as me, but he still eats chicken so sometimes will want it to be added to the meal (in a stir fry for example). It might sound silly but I can't bring myself to cook it for him! Blush

DH still eats fish from time to time but he either has that when we're out or he cooks it for himself. At other times he might add some grated cheese to the vegan dish I've served him.

DS is a meat eater. He doesn't eat huge amounts of meat though, just a little ham and turkey. DH tends to cook those meals for him.

I think we've pretty much got it sorted in our house. We all work together :)

Similar here -
I pretty much plan the meals, shop and cook so the 'menu' is vegan - but he might add Parmesan/ yoghurt / feta etc to what I've made. Or he might have eggs / bacon if I'm out. I definitely don't cook meat anymore, but my food's so delicious Grin I get no complaints ...
When I first went veggie before vegan DH reckoned he'd still make himself beef stews etc but I think he found quickly that he didn't miss meat remotely as much as he thought he would.

I'm one vegan in a house with 5 carnivores, dh and 4dc, since I do all the meal planning, cooking and shopping we mostly eat vegan but I do sometimes find I have to grill sausages or put something like a pie or quiche in the oven for them. I don't like it much and would far rather not but we all have to get on I guess, chances of any of them giving up on meat entirely are nil.

My DH is a big meat eater. We have a tiny kitchen with a tint stove and only a few pans. He works and Im home so I have to be the one doing the cooking. So I cook meat for him, sometimes I even have to do it in the same pan as mine because there is no space on the stove for anotber pan.

I absolutely hate it sometimes. Its really difficult to juggle meat with my veggie stuff. I don't mind prepping red meat so much but cutting chicken makes me feel sick every time with how fleshy and slimy it is.

He doesnt ask me to do this, he never would. But I can't ask him to cook his own food when he comes hone famished after a long day of work.

Ive been following threads like this closely in the hope that I will find some practical tips in how to deal with my situation but most people seem to either cook veg for whole family, or have their partner make their own food Sad

Not vegan but I don't eat meat and DP does.

If I'm cooking from scratch, there's no meat, if he is (which is rare tbh) he can do what he wants, but he usually cooks vegetarian stuff.

If it's pre-prepared stuff where it's just a case of another tray of burgers or whatever in the oven I'll do meat if he wants, he used to always want meat, after 21 years he's now not that bothered.

I roast a organic free range chicken ( or any other roast ) at the beginning of the week and add it to my vegan / vegetarian food.
I will not cook any battery meat but do cook meat.

If he is dead (lol) set on meat the answer is to have things that go in the oven. Pies, sausages etc, things that don't require too much interaction and that there are vegan versions of so you can eat the same meal. He can cook his own chicken for the stir fry and add it in to the vegetables. Works in my house anyway, though most meals are vegan as I do the bulk of the cooking. Always use veggie mince for chilli etc.

DH loves a good steak but he's happy to eat vegetarian at home (I'm vegetarian not vegan). He gets some meat with his lunches or work dinners, though - that's several meals a week anyway.

My DP is unfortunately a big meat eater and I do cook it for him though of course I wish he wouldn't eat it. He will eat some vegan meals like a soy mice bolognese or chilli but not many. We do have some compromises though like he uses dairy free spread and almond milk and I won't buy eggs. I also try to choose accidently vegan foods when it comes to crisps and snacks for his work lunch (I'm in charge of the weekly shop). He has no issue when I make vegan cookies or cakes and often requests them.

I don't cook non-vegan food any more... and being the primary cook that means it's unusual to have anything other than a small amount of cows milk in (OH coffee... I serve it to him black or with oat milk Wink)
OH/ family seem perfectly content with the arrangement - the kids are happy and DH never complained and has actually become pretty much veggie in the last year

I don't handle non-vegan food anymore; I will reluctantly cut up sausages for the kids if we're out somewhere but otherwise it is all on DH. Thankfully they don't drink dairy milk any more, which is fab Grin

OH eats my vegan teas at home but occasionally with added cheese on top as above. He has meat in sandwiches or when we're out. He cooks and admits he can't be bothered cooking separate things, even when it's things like burgers :)

I think its best to separate a part of stir fry while cooking so that you can have yours and your BF can have his.

I am vegetarian and my DH is happy to eat my food, but 2 Ds's like meat so I sometimes have to cook it for them. I compromise by cooking a roast once a week and I just have the vegetables. I don't like to handle meat so I buy roasts in a tin foil case which goes straight into the oven. I do toad in the hole, 2 varieties, 1 with meat sausages 1 with quorn sausages. DH says that quorn replacements mean the food still tastes meaty.

I used to be omni, DP veggie. We just ate veggie at home and if I wanted to buy meat for myself I could. I generally didn't bring it home though, I'd eat it out, but not bring it into the house except at xmas.

Then I went vegan, DP stayed veggie. Again back to the common denominator so we ate vegan at home and if she wanted cheese she could buy it for herself.

We're both vegan now.
