centre parcs experts I need your help

OK - wanna go to centre parcs in sherwood forest I've picked the date and the level of accommodation - it then takes me to another page where I'm meant to either pick the area - each for an extra charge of 30 - 40 quid or get them to pick for free and they allocate later on?

Why - if I've done a check picked the price why are you then asked to pay more and pick your own of your category?

Should I do this or get them to pick?

We've been to centre parcs once and I don't think we had to do this.

You pay extra to be nearer the centre. So if you only want to be a five minute walk away it's worth paying the extra (we always do) If you don't then you coulod be a 15-20 minute walk away (although the standard of accomodation doesn't change)

They do it in bands from the centre (being most costly). We chose a few weeks ago and we paid an extra £45 to be as close to centre as possible but we usually don't pay and let them put us wherever. If you have a toddler who can't walk far but isn't a pushchair or if you'll be going in bad weather etc, then those kind of things might make a difference as to how close you wanna be.

OK get it - we last stayed at elveden and it was fine - this time sherwood but I was a bit taken aback that they advertise a price fro the accommodation and then charge extra for location.

We don't care - I'll happily put my 4 year old in the pushchair if need be. LOL. Just want to save money.

Anyone just booked and let them allocate - ie with no extra location charge? Is it worth the risk ie are you always allocated miles away? We are looking to go mid may and I wonder whether it will be busy - don't think they are any holidays?

We usually let them put us anywhere and just book. The extra location option was a lot less (£13) until a few years ago when they obviously cottoned on as to how much more money they could make and more people obviously wanted to choose where their villa was. Neither Sherwood or Elvedon are too hilly (unlike Longleat which is extremely hilly) so I wouldn't worry. The outside villas at Sherwood are quite a way out but check on the map and it'll tell you how many mins exactly.

Yes we've let them put us anywhere most times actually. It's fine. I think Sherwood is a little bit bigger than Elveden but still not bad. At least one time when we've let them place us anywhere, we have ended up very central actually.

We tend to have bikes/trailer with us so we don't mind how far out we are. I suppose if you had elderly parents or someone with restricted mobility it might matter but we never found it a problem.
