Self Catering in Scotland - don't mind where - for a week in Aug

am toying with the idea of a week away with DH & the kids but we can't go far as DH only has holidays right before the schools go back and lack of pennies denies distance grin

don't mind where as long as its not in a tent - am not at one with nature blush

Aviemore somewhere?

dizzydixies Sun 14-Jun-09 20:34:20

we did avimore a few years ago, the McDonald highland resort things, was thinking more of a self catering cottage but would be happy with it being in Aviemore grin

Nethy Bridge

dizzydixies Sun 14-Jun-09 20:43:21

looks fine, do you know any of the self catering places?

MumHadEnough Sun 14-Jun-09 20:45:34

Can highly recommend these lodges. Don't know how much availability they will have now though. Blairgowrie is a lovely town too, everyone is so welcoming.

dizzydixies Sun 14-Jun-09 20:46:20

blairgowrie too close but thanks smile would be like a holiday in the back garden

seb1 Sun 14-Jun-09 20:48:13

No we stay with family, but DDs loved the ranger walks and we were able to used the pool here abernethy trust

MumHadEnough Sun 14-Jun-09 20:49:52

Lol DizzyDixies, didn't realise you were in Fife, and my next suggestion would have been BurntIsland wink.

RipMacWinkle Sun 14-Jun-09 20:51:20

We're looking at going up north this year - Inverness type region. Have been looking at these lodges.... depends on what you fancy and your budget.

Hope you get something sorted dizzy

Medee Sun 14-Jun-09 20:53:27

I can't give you any specific recommendations, but having just had a few days away, I would suggest Skye. Lots to do, plenty of holiday accomodation, lovely people and scenery.

Wallace Sun 14-Jun-09 20:54:45

Carrbridge is lovely

Wallace Sun 14-Jun-09 20:56:19

Fairwinds chalets in Carrbridge

Wallace Sun 14-Jun-09 20:56:51

or Wolf Lodge

mrsdisorganised Sun 14-Jun-09 20:59:49

Lovely location, beach nearby and not busy! www.glenelg.co.uk/accommodation/glenelg_self_catering_cottages.shtml smile

dizzydixies Sun 14-Jun-09 21:00:14

I'd love to go to Skye Medee but I think I'm missed my chance in terms of availability

thanks Rip - will give them a look

Wallace I went to Carrbridge when I was wee so maybe a trip right down memory lane dragging the kids and DH with me is in order grin

will give them all a look thank you

dizzydixies Sun 14-Jun-09 21:01:18

sorry seb forgot to say that looks Fab! no wonder your DD loves it, I used to be a ranger in a much former life and loved it <<sigh>>

Wallace Sun 14-Jun-09 21:05:47

Carrbridge and Nethy where seb is posting about are very close to each other.

Carrbridge also has Landmark! grin

dizzydixies Sun 14-Jun-09 21:08:31

I remember Landmark but bloody hell its improved since I was last there in 1996 shockblush

Wallace Sun 14-Jun-09 21:19:21

It certainly has grin

Wallace Sun 14-Jun-09 21:20:49

Just looked at your profile and your girls are maybe still a little bit young to enjoy Landmark to the full.

It's best when you can just sit back and let them rampage all by themselves!

dizzydixies Sun 14-Jun-09 21:26:15

friends of ours were up doing our half term a few weeks ago and her 9yr old was jumping off the skydive thing much to her father's horror as he went up with her despite his fear of heights grin

can't wait till they're old enough for Go Ape as well smile

bumsrush Mon 15-Jun-09 00:22:14

Budget? Age of kids? town or country?

dizzydixies Mon 15-Jun-09 09:54:46

bumsrush, we've 3 girls aged 6,3 and will be 1. prefer country and I would like it to be within a few hours drive of where we are (NE Fife) as it will be a bit rushed for my return to work and DD1's school starting again

have been looking and some places are asking >£1k for a wk self catering shock and we're nowhere in that league!!

don't mind heading to Highlands/Northumberland/skye/applecross/Arran/Lakes etc etc just not wanting another trip to NI as thats where the inlaws are and we're there ALL the time

Balbeg is a great place Foxglove not bad prices for summer holiday. has a park and an adventure playground and direct access to various walks.
