We are doing-Kings X to Paddington Station, then the Science Museum, then Hyde Park and then a ride on the London Eye, then back to Kings X, what do I need to buy?

I've never been to London as a grown up blush

Travelcard

Thomcat Tue 28-Oct-08 14:11:16

A Zone 1 travel card

Pawslikepaddington Tue 28-Oct-08 14:11:42

Is that what it is called? Do they have different levels/zones like a railcard, or is it fairly easy to work out when I get there? Thank you, I feel so silly asking this!

Pawslikepaddington Tue 28-Oct-08 14:12:04

Thanks Thomcat, x-posted there, sorry! grin

SqueakyPop Tue 28-Oct-08 14:12:56

I buy my travelcard intergrated into the rail ticket. It is just a couple of pounds extra.

RubyShivers Tue 28-Oct-08 14:14:10

won't it be cheaper to buy an Oyster Card - you can get a pay as you go from any station

it always gives you the cheapest rate on the underground

SunshineSmith Tue 28-Oct-08 14:15:26

I would do a day travelcard Zone1 only.
Have fun!
x

RubyShivers Tue 28-Oct-08 14:15:31

it says it is also valid on some over ground lines so it may be worth looking at

I bought a zone 1 and 2 with my ticket-I don't know if that is the right thing to do but it seemed the easiest option. Gosh I'm so excited!!!! grin!!

I know-have a "very busy" dd and a small house, so hoping tomorrow night I may be able to tidy the house without wanting to send her away! grin

You need a family travelcard. The ticket office should know what you need if you tell 'em

Pawslikepaddington Tue 28-Oct-08 21:05:52

Do I need a family one if she is 4? Don't under 5's travel for free? xx

Yep, sorry, didn't read your OP properlyblush. It's under 11 on the tube, not sure about the buses.

Sorry, did I sound really obnoxious? I didn't mean to! We did the lot-we did platform 9 3/4, paddington station, got lost, then did the science museum, then got lost again, then did the eye, then (dare I say it!) got lost AGAIN and then eventually spent 3 hours in Hamleys, 3 raaaaa hours! And then went home. Phew! Will take the buggy next time-there was a lot of falling out over tired legs (refuse to use the buggy for her now she is at school, but think I pushed her too far this time-I even told her if she couldn't walk to the tube station I would have to leave her in london, as I couldn't give her a piggy back due to large oversized camping rusksack, handbag, the three large bears that had to see London too and the Hamleys bag (it was a dolly bike seat, but in the worlds most enormous box!) blush

Lol!!

I can empathise, had to take 4 6 year olds to the Aquarium today....Never again!!

You'll have to try a lot harder to be obnoxious in futurewink, reread your reply and still can't detect obnoxious....bewilderment...maybegrin

squeakypop Thu 30-Oct-08 20:00:44

Wow - you took on a lot!

When we go into London, we just do one small thing (eg 1hr in a museum, no more) and have something to eat.

Pawslikepaddington Fri 31-Oct-08 02:59:43

Aaah, I now know the secret of London blush. Aquarium next on the list, then sci museum properly when not packed on half term (what is in "the garden"-the queue was HUGE!) and then, well, the world is our oyster (card), ha ha! I love London! grin She still didn't fall asleep on the way home though, from 8.30pm until 10.00pm on a train, and I'm such a sedate person, where did the energy come from? grin
