2 hours covers potentially a huge area and also depends which side of Manchester you're starting from......Lake District, Peak District, North Yorkshire, Yorkshire Dales, North Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire.....what sort of trip do you want??

@emmathedilemma just somewhere to keep the kids happy! Preferably play facilities on site or a beach nearby. I don't know this area very well.

Anglesea in Wales is popular holiday destination from Manchester. It's about 2 hours away

Anywhere on the North Wales coast should fit the bill, plenty of choice.
We stayed here on Anglesey, bit of a drive to other places but nice beach near by

If you want stuff on your doorstep try the mainland, slightly inland from Llandudno, Conwy as plenty to see and do within 30 mins drive etc
How old are the kids?
This is cheap but only really any good for one evening or a couple of hours

As others have said, depends where you’re travelling from in M/cr. I can be in the South Lakes in 2 hours, N Yorks in 1.5 hours and the Peaks in an hour. I’m in south west M/cr.

Delamere forest holiday lodges.
(Part of the Forest holidays company).
Amazing location and loads to do nearby including Go Ape, mountain biking, ice cream farms, Chester zoo, Blue Planet, little train to Llanduddno/Rhosneigr. Canal boat hire, wild swimming, horse riding and a new giant inflatable assault course on a lake.
The lodges are all fairly new and very clean.

The Delamere lodges are a good shout, the Forest Lodges are really nice so being new they should be great.
If you want facilities on site then you're probably looking at a caravan or lodge/chalet on a site rather than a cottage. Something like this in the Lake District - no beach but does have access to the Lake Windermere. www.parkdeanresorts.co.uk/location/lake-district/white-cross-bay/
For beaches, North Wales and Anglesey is as good as anywhere.

Agree with others you can get to a lot of places within 2 hours of Manchester. I live in the Lakes and we're two hours by car - sometimes less depending on time of day/traffic.
