We are staying near to St David's Pembrokeshire with friends in August. Booked last year and excited as never been before. We have kids aged 10-13. Keen on surfing etc (have own kit etc), bike riding and so on. Any recommendations of bike routes, kayak tours or cafes and pubs that are open. Also thinking will we need 'plan b' if beaches are busy? White sands is where we thought to surf as close by but any other ideas on smaller ones if too busy? Thanks in advance

Newgale is also great for surfing but could potentially be as busy as Whitesands. Watch out for riptides at both beaches - had a few hairy moments on Newgale as a teenager. Most of the smaller coves are too sheltered for any decent surf but would be lovely for kayaking. Try Caerfai or Nolton Haven.

TYF are good for outdoor pursuits. You might like coasteering too.

The coast road between St Davids and Fishguard is a good bike ride.

The Sloop in Porthgain is a lovely setting. The same people own The Farmers, The Bishops and The Cross hotel in St Davids. You'll get a decent pint and decent food in any of them.

Also, the cafe at Whitesands does takeaway, so you can have your supper on the beach.

We're also going in August Grin
