How hopeful do you feel about your UK holiday this summer?

We're due to go to the Peak District for a SC holiday in August. I'm really hoping we can go, particularly as it would be easy to socially distance. We could even take our food for the week with us and just go walking each day with a picnic in a backpack. Anyone else feeling cautiously hopeful? We've had to cancel two holidays already (Easter and May half-term), so this could be the only one we get to take.

I'm going abroad in July. Really don't see why you won't be able to go on holiday in August in the UK. It's not Ebola virus.

I was hoping for Yorkshire at end August. I think it's 50/50 chance. Not sure if everything be open though

Ditto. Cornwall in August, self catering, clean hands, face masks in small shops.

@TinRoofRusty have you factored in the possibility of quarantine?

Given up on the idea.

We take our caravan to a field in Cornwall, but the big draw about a holiday for us is the pub after a day body boarding, eating fish in Padstow at our favourite restaurant (which is so small they could only fit one family in if they have to social distance).

Also, whilst we have our own shower, we use the loos/shower sometimes, which would have to be shut for social distancing.

Besides which, the Cornish don't want us at the moment do they?

No. You quarantine at home. Big deal. Who's going to police it? They're not planning to lock people in a jail cell.

I thought they had mentioned the Government could provide places to quarantine in, on the news today, so not your home.

I can’t think of anything worse than staying in a rented holiday home, caravan or whatever right now. Sleep in a bed others have slept in no ta not at the moment.

As for going abroad, I wouldn’t bother this year. A lot of countries are on lockdown, slowly coming out of it with caution. It won’t be a holiday as you know it. It would just be a waste

Where are you going TinRoofRusty?

Yeah, right, I totally believe everything on the news about the government Hmm.

We cancelled our 3rd trip to butlins of the year. It was supposed to be August but if you have ever been to butlins you will know how cramped reds/centre stage/skyline get. They hold 1000s and (sorry butlins) grubby as fuck Blush. But the kids love it, our 13yr old has brittle asthma is really unwell on 3 inhalers, montelukast, azythromycin and steroid tablets every day that I can't possibly take him there.

Hate to disillusion you, but I'm afraid I'm definitely going. It's not for a holiday. Flights are still running. The sky will not be falling in due to coronavirus no matter how much so many seem to want it to.

Odd how abjectly terrified people are but not about driving across the country to get to a holiday location, that's apparently far less risky than coronavirus.

The OP asked about holidays which I don't think will be going ahead this summer (both my foreign holidays cancelled Sad).
And not remotely terrified about going away - more gutted that I can't.

We have an airbnb booked in late July but are going to cancel.

It was for a family get together but as someone mentioned above, we wouldn't feel comfortable. Who was there the day before you? Who was sleeping in the beds? Using the cutlery and crockery? Coughing all over the place?

My parents are mid 70s and my partner is currently shielding. It's just not gonna happen.

Well, it's still a bit of a holiday, going for a month. There will be fun involved. I know, that thing people used to have before they all lost the plot over this.

Do they have quarantine where you are going @TinRoofRusty?

Report
loobylou10 · 11/05/2020 17:13

@TinRoofRusty I haven't lost the plot over this, like I said, gutted that I can't go away but also trying to be realistic about the state of play as it stands at the moment. Holidays look a fairly long way off at the moment IMO

We've got a cottage in Norfolk. I will be going as soon as the government says we can travel to second homes. We will of course be taking supplies for whilst we are down there as I am aware that is one of the most contentious issues with using second homes.

My aunt lives in Cornwall, drawing her income from tourism. Whilst she is mourning the season she says the Cornish are genuinely enjoying their beautiful county without the tourists. I can't help but feel a little pleased they've found joy in all of this shit.

I definitely haven’t lost the plot over this TinRoofRusty Hmm I just asked where you are going. We were supposed to be visiting relatives in NZ - it’s not losing the plot to say it really doesn’t look like it’s going to be happening...

No, ineed.

I can't help but feel a little pleased they've found joy in all of this shit.

Wonder how much joy they'll feel when the money dries up. That's beyond fucked up.
