A day in London

I don't live in the UK, but I live somewhere in Europe close enough to be able to go on day trips to London. Which I have done many, many times by now.

I'm going to London again in late March with my dad and my brother, but I'm kind of lost on what to plan for the trip. Both my dad and my brother have been to London numerous times, too, so I guess I just want to plan something a bit different. Can anyone recommend some more unusual sights (that are maybe not too touristy), places, and restaurants in central London that we should check out?

Thanks in advance!

The Line is an art walk which runs from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London down to The O2 in Greenwich. Along it there are several public artworks by artists such as Damien Hurst. It’s the perfect way to get some exercise, see some sights (you cross the Thames in a cable car at one point) and some art. The whole walk takes about two and a half hours, not including stops for drinks!
The Postal Museum is quite quirky. You get to ride along the original postal railway tunnels underground and it’s combined with a bit of a theatrical experience.
The Clink Prison Museum, just off the South Bank is good fun. You’re shown round by actors in costume who bring it to life.

I love hanging out at South Bank. Always something going on, some nice places to eat and drink. Good street food behind Waterloo station.

I also like Brick Lane, Columbia Rd market on a Sunday, Greenwich is Funky.

What kinds of things do you all like? Museums, galleries, architecture, music?

I like markets. Spitalfields, Columbia Road, Portobello (what’s left of it), Borough.

Or places that are well known but a bit further out so maybe you haven’t made it there - Hampton Court, Kew Gardens, Hampstead Heath for example. Thames Barrier?

For restaurants there are new ones every day, try Time Out or Squaremeal for ideas.

Designmynight if you want to find “experiences” - there’s loads of pop up one off things to try out.

I really love treasure trails. You pick a neighbourhood/area and download a trail which is a series of about 20 clues that will take you on a circular route so you end up where you started (usually a station). You end up going down all sorts of side streets and by-ways that you'd never generally notice - I'd do the Spitalfields one and go to Brick Lane for bagels or a curry afterwards Smile

www.londonforfree.net/walks/writers-walk/

Did this walk, or mist. If it last month

Went into Euston so went to this cafe for breakfast
the-attendant.com/locations/fitzrovia/

There was a great looking cafe after Great Olmand st hospital - can’t miss it

Went to Bourgh market for a look around

Then walked back to Bond Street, passed St Paul’s

Check if Sotheby’s has an auction or viewing, they can be very interesting for a nose around

Have you been to the sky garden?

Thanks everyone for your great tips. Most of suggestions are for sure new to me/us!

What kinds of things do you all like? Museums, galleries, architecture, music?
We like museums, shopping, sightseeing, markets and parks a lot, but we're open to all sorts of new experiences, too.

Have you been to the sky garden?
We have not, actually. I just googled it, it looks like something that's worth a visit. It reminds me of a similar place we have in my own city. Which I haven't visited, either, hehe.

When we went to the sky garden we had lush cocktails, which was lovely as the entrance is free.
There is I think some guided walks from the monument where the fire of lindon started, just as spiting distance from the sky garden

What ever you do have a fabulous day
