We are traveling from the US early October. We are spending 3 nights in London and then would like to spend three nights somewhere else in England. I am at a loss. What are your favorite places to take young kids? Maybe a beautiful village? Coastal town? A lake? Hiking? We like a variety of things.

If you don't want to travel too far I would head for Suffolk. Southwold and Aldeburgh are quaint English seaside towns. You could also visit the Viking settlement at Sutton Hoo and catch a boat to Orford Ness.

If you have a generous budget and fancy a bit of pampering you could look at a stay at Woolley Grange. A pretty country manor house converted to a very family friendly hotel - toys, kids menus, and some free childcare. Also there is Bath to visit nearby and Longleat Safari park if your DC like animals. Lots of lovely countryside and villages around too.

Alternatively Brighton might be a good option, quick train ride from London, pretty town, beach and lots of young families so there’s bound to be plenty of things to do. B&Bs aplenty. Plus the South Downs close by which are great for walking or biking.

Bear in mind the weather in October can go either way so I’d plan somewhere that has indoor options too.
