Travelling from a holiday park in Charmouth to see friends in St Ives. Want to break the journey so looking at somewhere past Plymouth. Don’t remember being overly impressed with the immediate vicinity of Plymouth but it was a long time ago. Anybody got any fave resorts/lovely beaches? We’ll have driven down from Scotland via Lake District, Wales and Somerset with our 2 kids in tow (12 & 15) We like gorgeous beaches, pretty villages and nothing too lary - will stay in a cheap B&B, hotel or apartment. Realise we might be hard pushed to get accommodation at this late stage. We’ll be looking at a Thurs or Fri night stay in about 2 weeks time. Any recommendations gratefully received Smile

Thanks. It’s not so much a case of breaking the journey for a rest BigSandyBalls2015. More of a case of getting our moneys worth and enjoying what Cornwall has to offer while we’re down here. It’s a ruddy long drive from Scotland Grin Will check out Looe - do you know it well Ricekrispie22 ? Any particular recommendations when visiting?

Looe is a harbour town divided into two parts either side of the arched stone bridge across the river. East Looe is the main tourism centre - narrow streets lined with shops, cafes and pubs that lead through to the main town beach. West Looe is a good beach for exploring with lots of rock pools and a good view across to St George's, or Looe Island. There are boat trips to the island in the summer season, as well as along the coast. A train journey on the Looe Valley Line will take you to the ancient stone circle at Duloe and the holy well at St Keyne.

Polperro is nice. Near looe. Lovely pubs to eat in, harbour to stroll around, a few shops.

If you're walkers you can walk the coastal path from one to the other and there's a little beach and cafe in the middle called Talland Bay.

Thanks Pinkstars - Polperro will definitely be visited and the cafe at Talland Bay looks gorgeous! We’ve booked a guest house for 1night in Looe and will walk to Talland Bay or drive to Talland Bay, park up and then walk to Polperro - weather dependent of course Smile Can’t wait!

It is! Especially if you manage to bag a beach hut to have a drink/cake in. So cute.
