Where to stay in Liverpool

We're looking for a family room in Liverpool with two pre-teens for a few nights in July. Don't mind whether it's in the middle of things or slightly out, as long as it's easy to get into the centre. We'll have a car so need to be able to park easily (and ideally reasonably cheaply). Breakfast is a bonus but not essential.

Budget is around £80 a night. Any suggestions please? Or at least a clue as to areas?

I tend to stay in Hale village. It's about 15-20min drive from Liverpool and is much cheaper. I usually say in a lovely B&B called the Barn. You have a mini fridge and cereal, fruit, cereal bars, milk cooked etc in your room to make your own breakfast. It's sportiness clean and the rooms are massively I believe they also have family rooms. There are several more B&Bs there as well. Brook Barn is also nice. You get cooked breakfast there. But not sure about family rooms.

Hale is good or try travel lodge Premier inn etc Rainhill, St.Helens Widnes all are 20 mins from the city but much cheaper, some Liverpool carparks are very expensive I think Mount Pleasant is the best value?
Plan well Liverpool is a compact city centre so walkable, Maritime museum is excellent as all most of the city centre ones, any specific interests you would like to see?
Food
Crust or Leaf in Bold Street
If you venture further afield Southport, New Brighton Chester, Conwy, Llandudno, Liverpool is an excellent base

Stay in the city centre. You really don't want to be in the sticks. Premier Inn Liverpool One is around £75, and you won't pay more than £10 per day for parking as a guest. Then you're within walking distance of the Albert Dock, museums and everything else.

Parking in Liverpool centre, even with a hotel discount is about £16 a day. The cheapest place to park is the Anglican cathedral car park.

Not true - copied from the City Centre premier inn website : "There is no on-site parking available at this hotel. Chargeable off-site parking is available at Liverpool Central Car Park (L1 4AT) at a discounted rate of £6.00 per 24 hours. Parking ticket must be validated at hotel reception upon departure to achieve the discounted price."

£6 for 24 hours is a bargain.

Have you thought about an apartment? There are a few nice ones round Sefton Park, might be a good option if you've got kids with you, own kitchen etc and parking would be free

Premier Inn Albert Dock - stayed there myself recently, great location near city centre, on the waterfront next to Albert Dock, Liverpool Museum, Beatles Story and within 20 mins walk of almost anywhere in city centre, in a historic warehouse building, breakfast available, family rooms from £50ish per night in July. Parking available for a fee - but if you are paying that sort of rate then should be doable within your £80 a night.

Have stayed in many Liverpool hotels over the years and that one was best in terms of what you get for the price (and in fact better than some more expensive ones) - but then I always love Premier Inn beds!

Aigburth travel lodge is really close to two metro stations. 10 minutes into the city centre. My friend lives just round the corner. It's a nice area.
