We are driving from a place called Helensburgh, north west of Glasgow, to Hafan Y Mor Haven in north wales next month. We may stop overnight not decided yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations of a nice place to stay on the way down?

Thank you

We often stop at or just after Lancaster it's easy off the M6 and means that you can do the busy section of Manchester etc in the morning when it's a bit quieter.

The hotel at tebay services is great. Excellent breakfast and nice soap.

We've stayed here - great location without needing to detour, and very friendly www.kingsarmstemplesowerby.co.uk/index.htm

The Riverside Hotel in Kendal is really good for families with young children. They have a children's menu and are more than happy to keep items in the kitchen fridge. They also supply baby listening monitors, high chairs, cots etc... it's close to Lakeland Maze and Farm Park, Lakeland Wildlife Oasis and The World of Beatrix Potter! It's not far from the M6 junction 36.

Ahhh. Used to do this journey often. Ex was in Navy but from north wales.

We used to stop off at lakes from time to time.

Its not a bad journey though.

No it's not a bad journey at all but we are only at Haven for 3 days and meeting friends there so thought if my OH was well rested on the Friday (he's the driver) he would have less chance to moan LOL

The M6 is not good at the moment from Lancaster down... not sure if any of the road works may have finished by then?

Chester would be an easy stop off. Off the M6/56, and v easy to get back on track as you'd possibly be passing through anyway to head to North Wales.

We always try to do Wales to Scotland in one go. Then you don't have to think of starting another 3 hour journey in the morning. Glasgow to Pwlleli (Haven) is about 6 hours plus stops. The M6 from Lancaster to the M56 turn off is usually busy but not the worst. Tebay services is a nice place to take a break. Then there's Chester services at the end of the M56 or Asda in Queensferry (the Welsh one, that is..) just over the Welsh border and just off the A55 (storelocator.asda.com/store/queensferry).

Go to Chester it's got the zoo or you can walk along the river, walls and feed the ducks. Free Roman museum.
