Hello,

I'm looking to book a self catering cottage in Norfolk. I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of a nice location. We'd like to be within walking distance of a sandy beach but also walking distance of amenities such as shops and cafes. Other attractions we can drive to. We don't like rowdy places so quiet 'resort' towns rather than really bustling ones would be better. I have been looking at Sheringham and Wells. Am I on the right track?

Thank you

We like Hunstanton. There are two sides to Hunstanton: the elegant old Victorian town with its Esplanade Gardens and rather sedate atmosphere and the lively buzzing family centre with a large sandy beach, pony rides, amusements and summer season theatre. Old Hunstanton has more of a village feel, with its beach (including rock pools) backed by the famous striped cliffs.
Cromer has enormous beaches with pristine sands and a Victorian pier that is home to the last end-of-pier theatre in the country. Low tide leaves lots of rock pools to explore. The beaches are backed by cliffs and gardens by the promenade. The town is lovely too.
At high tide, the beach at Sherringham is a shallow stretch of pebbles with erosion-resisting groynes that are an effort to get over. Best go for a walk along the promenade or explore the lovely Victorian town. But when the tide’s out, you have a fantastic bucket-and-spade beach of hard sand.

Thank you so much. I hadn't considered Cromer but will do now

Would absolutely second Hunstanton - old Hunstanton for the beach, and new Hunstanton for shops etc.

Otherwise somewhere around the various Burnhams would do - Burnham market is lovely and full of independent shops, Burnham Deepdale has the best breakfast cafe and Burnham Overy Staithe has the beach though it's a fair walk
