Birmingham to Suffolk - where to stop?

A friend and I are driving Birmingham to Felixstowe on Friday. We don’t see each other much so will be making a day of it.

Any suggestions where to stop for lunch or a walk? We’ve previously stopped in Cambridge and Godmanchster but all suggestions welcome.

Ickworth House and Park is a National Park property at Bury St Edmunds. If you don't really want to pay for entry, or it's too far out of your way, Bury St Edmunds town centre itself has loads of lovely individual cafes and gift/nik nak shops which you can spend far too long browsing in. The Abbey gardens is a pleasant walk too.
