Go away for all of August? Doable?

I know it’s going to sound insane.
Me, my husband and our three sons, 9,6,& 3.
I’d like to go away for the whole four weeks, here is my dilemma. We don’t drive, is this possible? We love being outdoors, seeing new places, sightseeing, beaches etc. However I feel it’ll be too much as we don’t drive. I’ve even thought about hiring a boat! Any ideas? Or do I need to step back into reality?

I really do not understand how adults can't drive these days. Unless you live right in the centre of a huge city it is a necessary life skill. But that aside, of course its doable. You could travel by rail/coach and simply book an air bnb within a short distance of the train/coach station. But you would need to decide where you want to go, work out a route, get the post codes of the train/coach stations and do an air bnb search within say a 2-3 mile radius. Find something within your budget and book it. Then find your next destination and book that etc etc. The benefit of an air bnb is that you could choose the criteria, so making sure you have a washing machine etc. You will need a very
sturdy set of cases as well.

Without driving, then I presume you'd want to stay in places that are central fro the attraction - be that the mountains, the Beach, the town, the tourist attraction - which will put your costs up, as will paying for transport for 5 people each time you want to go somewhere, but, if money isn't an issue, then do it.
Do you want to go and 'spend a month by the beach' or specifically to 'pack in as many places as we can see'?
You can Youth hostel, you can Air BnB, the occasional B&B or guest house, and I'm sure there must be K equivalent to 'Inter-rail' type passes for getting on and off trains.
Sounds a fab adventure to look back on.

Probably cheaper to go abroad in August. Even long haul ( Thailand?) because although flights would cost more accommodation, transport and food would be cheap once you're there.

Do they still sell inter-rail tickets? If so that would be an AMAZING month around Europe!!

Other than needing to get a taxi to the airport, why would not driving stop you going on holiday?!

Do neither of you work?? We're only allowed two weeks off a time, three weeks at a push!

I've stayed on campsites before (France and Isles of Scilly) where some families seemed to have set up camp for the whole summer. it's a lovely idea. If Dp were a teacher like me we'd definitely do it.
