Naice but cheap Lake District in summer?

I'm looking for some nice but cheap accommodation in the Lake District in the school summer holidays for two families of four either sharing a cottage or two together. Any recommendations - don't even know where to start looking Confused Really don't want to end up in a loud caravan park just want a nice space to chill out and socialise between us.

Have a look on Air B&B. I’m from that part of the country though no longer live there and there are lots of places to choose from

Try looking right on the edges or just outside the National Park - Stavely, Grange over Sands, Kentmere, Cockermouth, Whitehaven - these areas tend to be a bit cheaper than the Keswick/Ambleside/Grasmere heart of the Lakes. Stavely has a good playground and great child friendly cafe (Wilf’s) not to mention the microbrewery. We stayed inn a cottage near the fire station, much to the delight of my then -fire engine obsessed DS!

Look at the Lakeland Hideaways website. We hired a cottage for 6 for a week in August for £765.
