Bletchley Park advice

I really want to visit Bletchley Park with my Dds as my Grandmother worked there in WW2 when she met my Grandfather. so its a really important part of our family history. Any recommendations for local hotels, other places to visit, tips for visiting gratefully received.

Don't eat in the cafe at the entrance, expensive and very poor quality. Take a picnic as the grounds are beautiful. Not far back to the car park either to put bags in when you are done. Other than that I found the whole place fascinating and thoroughly enjoyed it

There is a lot to see, you can spend a whole day there. Good idea to take a picnic . I found it absolutely fascinating and if you have a family connection, you can look up the records there of all who were involved .

There's enough in the main site for a day's visit - especially if there are children's activities there (which there sometimes are). I think it's an amazing place and to be honest, films like Enigma and the Imitation Game don't do it justice at all. Also worth reading up about it if you can. I find all the history, and the fact that it was predominantly women who worked there, quite inspirational.

The National Museum of Computing is also on the site, and is an additional charge, but to do them both justice, don't do them on the same day unless you have huge amounts of stamina. I am not really 'into' computing, but I found it fascinating - particularly Colossus.

Woburn isn't too far from MK. As we live not too far away, I can't recommend places to stay I'm afraid.

Milton Keynes Ikea is just down the road for cheap food if it isn't picnic weather

I agree with it needing a full day, and TNMOC also being well worth visiting, but not on the same day.

If you're going to visit TNMOC, check the days - they're not open every day. I had a tour, which was good.

She definitely worked on some if the machines as she also helped to smash them up after the war. She couldn't tell us for years but it all came out when my dds were learning about ww2. She's sadly no longer with us so it would be a kind of personal pilgrimage to visit.

Great day out indeed, but I would stay somewhere in London. It's a short train ride away from King's Cross.

I absolutely loved it. We went on a quirt day, and had a fantastic guide show us around. We ate in the café, and it was fine, nothing special, but fine.

I think it is best on a dry day.
