Yorkshire dales- recommendations?

We just had a fabulous three day walking break in Keswick, thanks to mumsnetter recommendations.

Our kids had a ball climbing Walla Crag and Castlerigg, and round Derwentwater, and we are keen to take them walking again (we love it too!).

We thought the Yorkshire Dales could be a good area to visit. Can anyone recommend areas to see, walks to do as a family, or places to be based as a family? (We prefer towns to isolated and going out of the town on foot to walk.)

Thanks in advance for any Yorkshire holiday tips!

You could stay in Richmond?

Nice town. has a castle, near the Dales for walking, waterfalls to visit, The Forbidden Corner is nearby, there's pony trekking not far, How Stean Gorge is nice as well for climbing and other outdoor things.
