Hotel for 1 night in London

Hello, we're hoping to do a big day out in London for DH's birthday in June. Afternoon tea and going to a show in Covent Garden (matinee as will have 5yo DD), prob going to a museum on the Sunday.

Any recommendations for a decent, kid friendly hotel somewhere good for Piccadilly/Covent garden/British museum? Don't want to spend mega bucks, but somewhere we could get breakfast and that would be good with a small child would work for us I think. Chains are fine. Appreciate I might be asking for the moon on a stick here, but worth a try!

just go onto the hotels.com or booking.com site and pick the cheapest one. with London hotels unless you pay mega money they are all pretty awful ime.

at least with a chain you know what you are getting. the sooner you do it the cheaper the chains will be. sorry not to be more specific but I have stayed in lots of hotels around this area and they are all the same no matter whether the price range. stayed in a red carnation hotel near Buckingham palace but it was very expensive.

I'd go for a Premier Inn or something mega expensive and luxe. Everything in the 2-3* bracket is only as good as a decent PI IMO.

I stayed at premier inn ne St Pancras for £145 for the room. It was fine and really quiet. Didn't bother with breakfast which was extra and got croissants and juice from round the corner. Some of the new youth hostels In London have family rooms too

We did that and stayed at hoxton Holborn, was fab. Have also stayed at prem inn Holborn which was good in an expected way!

Family room at a travelodge. Southwark or Waterloo one probably a good location for you if the Covent Garden one is full.

Premier inn nicer beds - also one at Waterloo.

Unless you are particularly keen on having a hotel breakfast, I'd advise in London maybe just doing room only bookings. My experience with London hotels is that the cost of the room often increases by about £20 a night if you want breakfast included, and unless you eat a lot of food, it's really not going to be worth it. I think you would be better off eating breakfast out to be honest.

I had a good experience recently staying at the Melville recently. It's quite close to kings cross so not quite where you're looking for but it was a bargainous 99 quid for the night. It wasn't on booking.com so felt it was abit of a find.

It might be cheaper for you if you stay outside central London in one of the nice neighbourhoods (in Zone 2). As you're going to a matinee you can get the tube in and out. And there will arguably be just as good a choice of places to have breakfast (and dinner if you need it).
Thinking of Chiswick, Acton, etc (if West suits you).

We always go for premier inn with the children. We've stayed in Holborn, Euston, South Kensington & Kings Cross.

If it's just the two of us we go for one of the Park Grand hotels.

Just had a quick look & there's a Premier Inn by Putney Bridge, half the price of central London. And you'd be near the river, probably lots of nice cafes around there.

Travelodge Drury Lane, Covent Garden.

As you're only there for one night best to be central - you don't want to be out in the suburbs and travelling in/out.

Bedford/Imperial new Russel Square in Bloomsbury so just round the corner from the British Museum. They're fairly basic but also fairly cheap.

If you can spend a bit more than travelodge/PI prices, take a look at The Grange chain. My colleagues often stay in them when they come to our London office. I've only been in the St Paul's one, but that's really nice and would be walkable from Covent Garden. There are others around too.

I recently recommended Premier Inn to a friend's family from overseas. They stayed at the one in Holborn and were very pleased. Quiet but central, near the British Museum and the brilliant Coral Fields playground, and some nice local restaurants in Lambs Conduit Street. (Try Ciao Bella if you are with kids.)

Never had a bad premier inn stay in London. Travelodge is a level down from PI imo so I would never go there if I could avoid. PI don't change the room rate if you are having breakfast, you just pay for your breakfast when you book, or in the morning if you wish. Bonus is kids eat free so for a family you could be paying £20 for 4 breakfasts.

Hub by premiere inn Covent Garden ideal base for 1 day. Small but fresh, clean and very reasonable.

Another vote for Premier Inn. My kids love a Premier Breakfast, and so do I because theirs is free!
We usually stay at Angel which is a minute from the tube and easy access to everywhere. I'd choose PI over Travelodge. The beds are way comfort.
