Bristol

I'm going to be passing through Bristol for a night in a few weeks. Am after recommendations for a decent hotel relatively near to Temple Meads station.

Not too expensive, and a bath in the room is mandatory! Pool is a bonus, but not as vital as a tub.

Open to suggestions / ideas on things to do in Bristol too.

Also does anyone have any experience with train classes on Great Western? Is first class worth it over standard? Journeys that I'll be taking are 2-3 hours.

Thanks!

There are lots but not all nr the station. Have you looked at Trip Advisor? Marriott is always reliable- there are two- but you would pay over £100 a night.

I have found 2nd class on GW fine. Trains do tend to be quite full at certain times.

Have you considered staying in Bath it's only 10 minutes on the train from Bristol? You could pop to the spa!

Trains are fine second class.

First class - you get a slightly bigger table and free refreshments - drinks and cake/biscuits/crisps. Probably quieter as well so might be better if you need to work. Otherwise second class fine. If first is only slightly more expensive then I would go for it, but if a lot more expensive it's not worth it.

Hilton Doubletree is near the station, don't know if it has baths though.

This hotel is close to Temple Meads and has an indoor swimming pool OP www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-6698-mercure-bristol-holland-house-hotel-and-spa/index.shtml.
Am not sure if it has baths or showers though!

Mercure has a pool and Doubletree hilton does too. Both are within 1O minutes walk or 4 min taxi of TM.
Train classes only really matter at peak times first class has free refreshments but standard is fine if you book ahead and reserve a seat.

In that area (near the hotels) there are some ok restaurants- river station is good and next door is the thekla- a floating nightclub beloved of the young ones. A few hundred metres on is the Arnolfini with art galleries, art house films and a cafe and another few hundred metres again is the Watershed with more art and films and bars.

I live and work close to all these. If you say more about what you want I can give you more info .
